5 years later....
Annie sits alone on the fire escape, twirling the silver locket around in her hand. Her crutch lays next to her.
Everyone has always asked why Annie wore the locket.
Truth is, inside the silver heart shaped locket, was a note. Not even Annie herself knew what it said.
When her mom gave it to her, she instructed Annie not to open it unless she really needed to.
Small, delicate tears fell from her memorizing green eyes.
She clutched the locket tightly in her hand and looked up at the star speckled sky.
"I miss you, mom" the young girl muttered sadly, blinking at the stars.
She sighed and grabbed her crutch with one hand, and slit back inside. Everyone was sitting around looking at her.
"You alright?" Her brother, Crutchie asked.
Jack walked over to her and put an arm around her shoulder, helping her walk.
Annie nods to answer her brothers question.
She didn't say another word that night.
