Chapter 9.

He sings.
"That so good Shawn I love it." I smile, stroking his arm. He's so good at writing and performing. I can't wait for the rest of the work to see it.
The door to the sound booth opens.
"Hey - oh sorry didn't realize you had company."
Two guys, who I am assuming are some of Shawns friends walk into the room.
My presence is met with looks on confusion.
"Oh guys-" Shawn stands up. "This is Jade"
"Hi" I stand up and extend my hand.
"Im Nash" a tall brunette shakes my hand with a firm grip. I look over to the other one.
"Carter" he says hesitantly. When he doesn't extend his hand I let mine fall.
Okay...
"When did you guys meet?" He inquires.
"About a month and a half ago." Shawn says, looking to me for assurance.
"And how old are you?"
"Twenty-one" I answer.
"Whoah...do you know how old he is?" He asks.
"Yeah?" I pose as more of a question.
"Dude can you chill? Whats with the third degree?" Shawn asks.
"Can we listen to the song you're recording?" Nash interjects, obviously sensing the growing tension.
I sink into the couch, suddenly self conscious.

"Listen dude I think you should be careful with that chick." I can hear Carters voice from the other room.
"What are you talking about?" Shawn sighs.
"Well for one thing shes five years older than you.-"
"Four" Shawn corrects.
"What ever..Second dont you think its kinda odd that you two are together. I mean with you being a celebrity and all?"
"She didnt even know who I was when we met"
"How do you know?" Carter questions.
What the fuck was his deal? I keep eves dropping.
"Because, unlike you I know how to pick out a girl and know whether or not shes an attention whore" Shawn says back.
Woah, shots fired.
"Okay I guess I deserve that but all im saying is that she seems shady. And dont you think that you could be...I dont know, swayed by fact that shes so much older and maybe...more experienced?"
"Listen Carter I appreciate your concern but shes not like that. And no im not 'Swayed' by anything. Now could you please just let it go? You act like you've never hocked up with an older woman before. And be nice please."
Although I was somewhat flattered at the fact that Carter thought I was 'expirienced' I was more pissed at him for incinuating that I was using Shawn for his 'fame'.
It made me feel better that Shawn came to my defense.
They both walk back into the room. Carter refuses to meet my gaze but I quickly forget when I see Shawn smiling at me.

"Whos Mike?" Shawn asks over the banging on the door.
"My ex boyfriend" I answer.. "You need to hide" I say.
"No, I want to talk to him.." he says walking towards the door, clearly getting defensive.
"No Shawn, ill tell him to leave..he won't if you're here, just go" I push him into my bedroom and grab the spare bag of Mikes stuff that ive had packed for two weeks now.
I reach for the chain to unlock the door and chuck the bag at Mike.
"Leave." I demand. He stares at me for a second, confused.
"Are you on your period or something? Whats you're problem?" He asks sternly.
"No, you dick." I grab his key chain and unhook the key to my apartment.
"What the fuck? Are you breaking up with me?" He yells.
"Please leave Mike. Befor I call the cops!" I was being a bit harsh but I didnt want to hear anymore of his bullshit.
I slam the door in his face and lean my body against it. Mike keeps banging on the door and my back vibrates from the blows.
I slid down until I was sitting on the floor.
I hear my door open and Shawn walks out cautiously.
"Is everything okay?" He whispers, crouching down next to me.
"Yes"
