She was beautiful, more beautiful than I had imagined, and I imagined a lot. The way the scales in her hair shimmered in the little sunlight that shone through the hole in the cave ceiling, her flawless face, and how smoothed it looked. Her bright green eyes, even with tears streaming down her face, still looked so beautiful.
I felt my feet start to feel heavy and I looked down to see why she was crying, why there were scales in her hair. I realized then, the truth of everything.
I couldn't help but soften my eyes and start to let tears fall down my cheeks. She dashed towards me as I collapsed, my feet too heavy to carry. Being in her familiar arms felt like home and comfort, and I was savoring the feeling for the last time. Time seems to be in slow motion in these last few seconds we have left. I felt my torso start to become heavy as well and I just took my hand and rested it on her cheek. It was as smooth as it looked, and wet.
She was a sobbing mess, saying she was sorry. I had a bunch of things to say, but I could only tell her two things. "Don't be, I love you." She shook her head and tried telling me the same but choked on her words as I saw my hand turn gray on her face and felt my throat become still. "Genevine!" She choked out my name. I smiled one last time and closed my eyes as I felt the stone come up to my nose and was grateful that she was the last thing I saw.
A/N -
This is my first ever story that I'm uploading for others to see. I wrote this in my creative writing class when I was in school and felt proud of it. I felt like writing through Wattpad for a bit but was too lazy to brainstorm and start from scratch so I'm just uploading old stories and adjusting them to fit the "Wattpad" format. Which means not full paragraphs and splitting up sentences so it's easier to read and such.
Love Isn't Blind is loosely based on the mythology of medusa but not entirely. I added my own twist and it may not match with the regular lore so don't expect it to.
I hope you enjoy my lil short story :)
