Charger Heights

|

Maji's pov

--------

I had lost track on how long we'd been driving, I was mostly sleeping or zoned out, but when the bus stopped I knew we had reached the prison I was to be staying at for the remainder of my sentence.

I focused my eyes and looked out of the window. The building was big, bigger than any other prison I'd been too or seen, I've never heard of Charger Heights until now but just from the outside alone I knew that this was a famous and secured prison. 'Not like I'd try and leave anyway' I thought.

The sound of keys and chains rattling brought me out of my observation. I looked over at the officer kneeled in front of me in disinterest, when he finished unlocking my confinements he stood up, me following behind. He was tall, maybe around 6'0 which was obviously taller than my 5'7.

Two officers stood in front while the third stood in the back, probably making sure no one tried to make a break for it. I sighed as my feet touched the ground and I rolled my neck, satisfied when I heard a crack.

When we stepped through the building it was quiet, the sound of inmates banging on the doors and catcalls absent. I could only assume that they were in the cafeteria.

The guards showed us our cells and showed us the way to the cafeteria, just as I was about to step through, I was stopped by a hand being held in front of me. I rolled my eyes and looked up at the guard.

"Not you, warden wants to speak to you"

I pushed out a breath of air and groaned under my breath, I could only guess why that is.

"Alright, let's get this over with" the tall light skinned guard turned around and led me through the unnecessarily large ass prison, we went up up some stairs and stopped at a big brown door.

The guard raised his fist and knocked on the door, a muffled 'come in' reached my ears and the officer next to me opened the door. I looked over at him before looking at the figure standing in front of a huge window, the figure turned around and a smile spread on the woman's glowing face, a burgundy colored folder in her hands.

"Come in."

I slowly walked further into the room, sitting in the chair opposite of hers. Silence fell between us and I didn't bother interrupting it. Her office consisted of neutral tones, there was a sense of lightness and relaxation from the colors alone.

"I've read your file"

"Mmm" I hmmed not at all interested in what she had to say, already having heard it once before, I continued to look out of the big ass window. Looking down at the cars driving by taking note of the busy burger joint across the street.

"Now I know of your.....special parts and I want everyone here to be safe, especially you, but there isn't any cell that I can assign to you for yourself."

I snapped my head to look at her she had a look of pity on her face. "Okay? I can handle my own."

"Yes, of course but I just wanted to let you know that I'll be here to look out for you and if you need anything you can ask."

I looked at her unamused but nodded nonetheless, "so can I go now?"

"Yes"

I went to stand up but she stopped me raising her hand. I sighed but plopped back in my seat, looking at her as I leaned back in the chair.

"Your cellmate is the strongest in here, and the reason why I assigned you together is because hopefully he'll protect you from the others."

I went to protest but she quickly spoke again, "now I know that you said you can handle yourself but it's good to have someone else looking out for you."

"Is that it?"

She nodded her head and stood up, walking over towards the door she opened it. I stood up and walked out, turning around when I felt a hand grab my wrist.

"Anything you need okay?"

"Yeah whatever" I nodded and she released my wrist smiling. I rolled my eyes and turned to walk down the stairs.

Santo's pov

"Ay ¿Ecuchaste" I heard from behind me before an arm was thrown over my shoulder. I looked over at my cousin Estéban and raised an eyebrow. (Ay did you hear?)

"Escuchar lo que" (hear what?)

"You gotta new celly primo" (cousin)

I looked over at him before looking ahead again. We just came back from the cafeteria, heading back to our cells for the night. I'd known of the new inmates coming but had I known one of them was gonna be my new cellmate I woulda had a talk with the warden.

She and everybody else knows what happened to my last cellmates, it's why I hadn't gotten a new one in 2 years.

"Really?"

"Mmmhmm", he moved his arm from around my shoulder and started walking in front of me, "oyó que era black too" (heard he was)

I stopped walking and looked at him with a straight face, "you fucking with me?"

"Jurar" (swear)

I nodded and continued walking, see I had no problem with black people but they always seemed to have a problem with me, maybe it was due to the constant use of a certain word from my people but I never held no grudge. Everyone in this prison liked to stick with they own anyway.

Etéban's cell was closer to the cafeteria so we reached it in little time. We dabbed each other up and I made my way to my cell that was further down. My cell was the farthest from everyone else's and had the most privacy, cracking my knuckles I walked down the familiar old boring hall, turning a left corner.

I stopped in front of my cell door and waited for the officer behind me to open it. He pulled out his walkie talkie, static filled the area as he spoke, "cell 216."

He placed it back onto his waistband as the door buzzed. He pulled it open and I stepped through, when I was all the way in the room the door banged shut behind me.

The cell was dark and I sighed, rolling my neck. I pulled the ugly ass orange jumpsuit off and threw it over the latter before climbing up.

Not at all aware of the other body in my bed.

A/n: I'm using Google translate for the Spanish so if I get anything wrong blame it on the app, also I have no idea how prison's work so everything is either from my imagination or how I think it is.
