Scarlette Avery had been hoping to arrive in Hawkins, Indiana unnoticed and leave unnoticed. She just had to go through her two final high school years quietly and disappear to an out-of-state college, but those plans went down the toilet upon meeting a rag-tag group of kids and their telekinetic friend.
She should have quit Scoops Ahoy as soon as she saw the uniform.
Getting roped into an underground world of Russian espionage and other dimensions and giant monsters made of melted people wasn't what she expected out of her summer job, but it's what she got. Along with some people - mostly kids - insisting she was now their friend.
It had been a quiet six months since that July. Hawkins was grieving the loss of many of their people, and their heroic police chief. The telekinetic girl was no longer telekinetic, and had moved away to sunny California - something Scarlette wished she herself could do. Since the mall was destroyed she found another job - somehow Robin had convinced her to keep working alongside her and Steve.
But, of course, things in Hawkins, Indiana don't stay quiet for long anymore.
