PART TWO
Topic: SHARPENING YOUR WRITING SKILLS
•Read
•Develop yourself
•Look at the world with the eyes of a writer
•Listen
•Write daily
•Meditate
Reading: I believe I shouldn't have to tell us this again.
By assumption, all good writers are voracious readers.
Read the Bible.
Read books by authors in your genre.
Read writing training books.
Read biographies...
Writing daily:
Train your brain muscles and hand muscles to write every single day.
Take a definite time that's convenient for you, a definite number of hours, a definite word count.
By this you'll train yourself to be consistent in writing.
PART THREE: THE STUMBLING BLOCKS ON A WRITER'S JOURNEY
•Writer's block
•Laziness
•Busyness
•Criticism
•Fear
•Lack of exposure
Part 3 a: HOW TO DEAL WITH THESE PROBLEMS
•Be determined
•Find inspiration from everywhere
•Don't cave in to fear of rejection or what people may say
•Be disciplined and consistent
•Always pray about your writing.
PART FOUR
Part 3 b: HOW TO MAKE YOUR AUDIENCE FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR WORKS
•Know your target audience and where to find them
•Drop the jargon, speak in clear terms
•Have a sense of humour
•Be approachable
•Encourage your readers to give feedback or comments on your work. That's why an Author's note at the end of each chapter works like magic.
PART FOUR
TOPIC: OTHER TIPS TO MAKE YOUR WRITING SHINE
This one is tailored for fiction writers
The title: Let your title grab the prospective reader by the throat. Let a reader see your title and go, "Wait, what? I've got to find out more."
Hook them and make them want to click on your book.
The book cover: This actually is the first and lasting impression your readers will have when they first come in contact with your story.
Now, I'm a Graphics designer still learning, also an architecture student so I might know a bit of how appealing things should look.
Tips: choose a clear background picture. Make sure it's either royalty free or an image whole copyright you have legally purchased.
Then, the typography and fonts really matter. Make it legible and bold.
I can't go into the details of colour balance for your book cover, but then, don't make it look like a rainbow or a graveyard.
Simple is most times best.
The blurb: For Wattpad there's a limited word count for the blurb (or about the book).
So, in that space, dangle the story before your readers. Give them the tip of the iceberg.
Check out successful books on Wattpad, see how they write their blurb and model it. This is an art on its own.
Plot and setting: This aspect is very broad. For now all I'll simply say is try to make everything balance. The description, the narration, the dialogue.
Grammar, punctuation, vocabulary: You can read up some articles on how to correctly do this try to be consistent.
If you're using British English or American English try to stick with one all through the story rather than darting from one to the other and thereby confusing your readers.
Character(s): Make them relatable, especially your protagonist and antagonist.
Observe real human beings and how they behave or react to situations and try to input that into your story.
Describe them well, but don't overdo it. Give them a backstory. Make them 3D and rounded not paper cut outs.
What do you think guys?
