Chapter 51: Birthday

Start from the beginning

"I love pancakes." I say enthusiastically. Wanda shoots me a knowing smile before leaving my room.

I quickly get dressed as well and open my door before she can knock. She seems surprised.
"Someone's excited for pancakes." She smiles and takes my hand. I nod eagerly and tug her to the elevator to go down to the kitchen.

My mom's already there and as soon as we step in, she rushes towards me to pull me into a thight hug.
"Happy birthday, malyschka." She says and lets go of me after kissing my forehead.

"Thank you, mama." I reply with a huge smile and hug her once more. Her eyes are soft as she looks at me with love and brushes some hair out of my face.

"You're growing up so fast." She sighs with a smile. "It feels like yesterday that you ran around in your diaper and hid behind Thor's leg."
I blush a little and bite my lip. "Mom." I plead and my eyes flicker to Wanda for a second. She has a smile on her face but a nice one, adoring our interaction.

My mom catches herself and shakes her head before squeezing my hand and settling on a bar stool again.

I follow Wanda to the kitchen counter where she starts to get the ingredients out.
Before she lets us alone, mom winks at me. I really appreciate her giving Wanda and me alone time, so we aren't embarrassed when we cuddle or kiss in front of her.

I hop on the counter and watch Wanda preparing everything. Her movements seem casual as if she does this often and I wonder how often she already made pancakes.
When the pan is hot enough, she pours some of the batter in and lets it bake, turning to look at me.

"Do you want anything special in your pancakes? Fruits, chocolate or so?" She asks and tilts her head in question. I think about it.
"I usually eat them without anything but now that you mention it, I'd like to try one with chocolate chips." I say and swing my legs like a child.

"Coming right up, sunshine." She replies and gets some chocolate chips and sprinkles them into the halfway baked pancake. Then she flips it and gets a plate to stack the pancakes on.

I jump off the counter and go to stand behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist and resting my chin on her shoulder to watch her. She unconsciously leans a little into me. I kiss her neck a few times before I just watch her cook.
It's like she's in her own little world when she cooks and it's adorable.

After some time I sit back on the counter and stare at the tower of already finished pancakes. She puts the last one on top and catches my stare.
After putting the pan into the sink, she comes back with cutlery and stands between my legs. I open them for her to move closer and she grabs the tower and a fresh plate on which she starts cutting the pancake into pieces.

She lifts the fork up to my mouth and I open to eat the pancake. I hum at its deliciousness and nod.

"Oh my god, they're amazing, Wanda!" I tell her and open my mouth for another bite. She gives me another piece and smiles happily.
"Thank you, I'm glad you like them."
"I love them." I correct. "And I now will demand them more often."
She chuckles and takes a bite herself.

"I think that's doable." She says after swallowing her bite.
"That was a joke, daisy. You don't have to make me breakfast."
She shrugs and looks at me.
"But I like making you food, especially if you enjoy it this much."
I shake my head with a grin and we finish eating the pancakes in silence.

Our moment is eventually disturbed when Thor walks into the kitchen and goes to tackle me into one of his bear-hugs, almost squeezing the air out of my lungs.
"Happy birthday little Romanoff." He cheers. "How does it feel to be 17?"

He lets go of me and I give him a huge smile. "Thank you and it's pretty much the same as 16."
Thor nods and grabs something from the counter behind him.

"You Midgardins have this tradition of giving someone a present on their birthday and since I always was somewhere else on your previous birthdays, I didn't know what to get you. So, I hope this does it." He explains and holds out a couple of boxes of pop-tarts.
When I was a kid, I loved them and we would always eat them together. I haven't had one in a while, I don't know why but this makes me really happy.

"It's great, Thor. Thank you so much." I thank him and take the boxes. He nods proudly.
"I will try not to eat them up." He jokes and I playfully scold him with a finger.

"Well, I have to go now but I didn't want to miss another of your special days, so I came here first." He says his goodbye and waves. We also say goodbye before he's around the corner.

I bring the pop-tarts into the cupboard after writing my name on them. When you live with so many people, it's best to write your name on something to provide someone else eating it.
I turn back to Wanda and lean against the counter.

"What do you wanna do today?" I ask her and she looks at me a little confused.
"It's your birthday, you can choose." She holds against my question and I hum.

"If it wasn't, what would you like to do?" I rephrase my question with a smirk. She rolls her eyes and steps closer to me, taking my hands in hers.

"Maybe we could bake you a cake?" She thinks out loud and I agree instantly.
"Can we please make a chocolate one?" I ask her with big eyes.
"Of course, whatever you want, baby." She answers and I smile at the new name.
I purse my lips and get a kiss from her that makes my smile widen.
