Chapter 17: Awake

30 7 26

He fought, he resisted,

And made it back to shore

While I remained helpless,

Chained down to the seafloor.

He embraced the light

And fled from the darkness.

I wallowed in the shadows,

Amid the carcasses.

Clarity rescued him,

But why did it leave me?

I also have the right

To fly high and be free.

You woke him up gently

With all the love and care.

So why did I wake up

To a man-eating bear?

You welcomed me with screams

And ear-splitting cries,

As you greeted him with songs

And your sweet lullabies.

He made it out alive.

He was safe and secure,

But you left me half-dead

With no aid and no cure.

You sent angels to find him

And bring him back home,

While you banished me to deserts

And places unknown.

You gave him a ticket

To ride the express train.

He escaped the land of dreams

Without an ounce of pain.

I was lost in deep slumber

While he stood wide awake.

He basked in the sunlight

As I drowned in the lake.

Fun Fact: I have a love and hate relationship with water.

Whether it be a river, lake, ocean, or sea, I absolutely both LOVE and HATE the water. True, it's beautiful. I enjoy nature a lot. I love swimming and playing in the water. HOWEVER! One cannot deny that it's scary as well. I hate murky or simply opaque water, since you never know what's underneath or what monsters lie beneath the surface. One slip up is all it takes to make you drown.

The water is beautifully terrifying, which makes it such a great inspiration for poems!
