Tommy pov

In the betting shop, Nancy started drawing as always and we got to work. Everyone was on edge after the letter but we couldn't speak of it infront of Nancy

"OK someone say something before I put this pencil up my nose from boredom" Nancy said after the silence

"We are working nance" John said to her

"I'm going out" she said standing up. She got to the door before Arthur had picked her up

"Where?" He asked

"Dunno. I'll just see if there is anyone out today. That alright?" She asked raising her eyebrow

"Why don't you stay here where its safe" Arthur suggested as he sat down with her on his knee

"Why? What's going on?" She asked annoyed

"The streets of Birmingham are getting too rough for you my darling. I'm sorry but you can't go out without an adult anymore" i told her not looking up from my work in fear of seeing her puppy eyes

"Please tommy. That's not fair" she whined

"We can still have fun baby. Why don't we play a game" John said. But Nancy just screamed in reply

"I DONT WANT TO PLAY WITH YOU" She jumped off Arthur's knee and bolted to the door but I got to her quick enough. She was hitting kicking and squirming in my arms trying to get loose but i couldn't let her go

"Tell her tommy" arthur said quietly but i just chose to ignore her

"Just fucking tell her" arthur said snatching Nancy from my grasp and rocking the girl in her arms

"She can't live like this" arthur said with tears in her own eyes. I nodded my head and went closer to Nancy

"Darling, there's a reason we don't want to leave you alone" I said but she didn't look at me

"The letter i got this morning, it wasn't a nice letter. I don't know who it's from but they are threatening you. And i can't let anything happen to you. We all need you to be safe and the safest place is with us" I told her. She still didn't look at me and just made grabby hands to polly

"Can we go to the park aunt pol?" She asked

"Sure darling. Let me just get my coat" polly replied putting Nancy down. 2 minutes later they had left with Nancy holding onto pollys hand

Polly pov

I was terrified walking through the street with Nancy. I can take care of myself but taking care of our little girl is hard. If something were to happen, I would die for her. But I'm just scared that I won't be able to protect her if anyone were to try and take her. She held my hand the whole way to the park

When we got there, she played on the swings and the slide with other children whilst I sat on a bench and watched her. I didn't let my eyes leave the girl the entire time for i was too scared to look away for even a second.

"Polly" i heard my name yelled. Mot wanting to but having no choice, I turned around to see John yelling

"Work is finished. We're going the garrison. You coming?" God he is still like a little kid

"Maybe later" I yelled back. He nodded and then left for the pub. I turned my attention attention to Nancy. Nancy was on the swing when she let go and fell onto the floor. Knowing tears would follow, i ran over to her and lifted her onto her feet. She was crying, poor girl, but luckily nothing was badly damaged

"It's just a graze. Let's go home and get this cleaned" I said holding her hand. We walked back home as Nancy dried her tears. She had stopped crying and was just sniffling. When we got home, there was a boy at the door

"Do you know polly gray?" He asked

"What do you want with polly gray?" I asked shocked. He took his hat off and shook his hair. It couldn't be

"I think she might be my mother" the boy said. The keys in my hand dropped but Nancy picked them up. She went and opened the door and we all walked inside

"I'm polly gray" I said smiling

"Henry. Or Michael as you know me" he said. Nancy coughed to remind me she was still here

"Oh yes forgot" I said. I lifted her onto the table and got the first aid kit with wipes and bandages. She squinted her eyes when it stung but was very brave

"Good as new" i said as she hopped off the table

"I'm Nancy Marie Shelby. You're my cousin Michael ain't ya" she said

"Yes I think so" Michael said. God I was so happy for him to be home

"Well I'm the owner of this motherfucking house. So don't expect me to suddenly allow you to run the place" she said crossing her arms and raising her eyebrows. He gulped for she was a very scary 7 year old

"Nancy. Don't be rude" i said sternly. We spent the rest of the afternoon getting to know eachother until at 4 o'clock, Arthur and John came running in waving guns about with tommy following behind. John lifted me up and put a gun to my head

"Don't move or I shoot the dog" he said in a funny voice. I burst out laughing and then it went silent. I'm guessing they noticed the surprisingly welcome intruder. They introduced themselves and i sat on John's hip

"I'm sorry but I'm confused" I said

"What about luv?" Arthur asked

"So there are some dudes out there tryna kill me. And hey we are allowing random men into our home if they say they are pollys son. I'm sorry but I could go up to the bloody Queen and say in her daughter. Don't make it fucking true though does it?" I yelled annoyed

"OK I'm gonna take her back to my house now before she gets a crack" Arthur muttered the last part under his breathe. He held my hand and we began to walk to his house
