  • Dedicated to My Dad, who kept me going even when it seemed like I wouldn't be able to finish.

PROLOGUE

It's a shame, having to be 16 years old, with nowhere to go, nobody to be with, and nobody to comfort you. Just basically nothing in your life, and no reason to live, except for your dad's last words to you.

I for one didn't find much interest in life except to get revenge on my uncle and his son, and wished sometimes that I didn't live anymore, but my father's dying words kept me going.

Along with the help of the mysterious Powers he bestowed upon me, of course. What? You don't have any Powers? You have a nice warm home with loving parents? Well lucky for you, unlucky for me. I don't even have FOOD, let alone any of the fancy stuff that you have.

Of course, food is no problem for me. I just go hunting!

But anyway, Let this be a reminder of all of the comforts of the living that you have, and be thankful that you don't have to worry about getting your next meal, or worry about defending yourself every step. You don't have to sneak around like you have done something wrong, and don't want to get caught.

Just look around you, and as I said, be thankful for what you have, because more likely than not, people like me (well not totally like me, just the homeless and without food part) are out there, and they don't get any help at all.

Chapter 1-Suspicion

*****************

"Raven!" my dad called. "Can you come here for a second!"

I ran over to him, and noticed right away that something was bothering him. He had this certain look in his eyes that betrayed his emotions, even though he had his poker face-or as I like to call it: his Alpha face-on.

Yes. My father is the Alpha of our pack. Yes. We are werewolves. My mother died during childbirth, not during my birth, but during the birth of my little brother Althalos. That was 9 years ago, but I still missed her. I was really too young to remember most things about her, but I remember her smile and her warmth towards other members of the pack. She was a good mother, and an even greater Luna, according to the stories told about her by the rest of the pack.

"Yeah Dad?" I don't really speak respectfully around him, unless he's in one of 'Those' moods. So I just usually acted all casual around him, and I can too, because I am his daughter.

"Can you go to the store and get something for me?"

"Sure Dad. What is it?" He smiled at me, but the smile never reached his eyes. It was starting to worry me now.

"Some iodine please. We are running low. Oh! And bandages too."

"Of course Dad. Can I ask you something Dad?"

"Sure honey. Lets go sit down." We walked over to the bench sitting close to a tree.

"What do you want to ask?"

I hesitated, then looked up at him. "You seem worried about something. What is it?"

He sighed and ran a hand through his thick brown hair. He was only around thirty years old, not old for us because we don't age unless we want to. I won't stop aging until I'm 17, but I can still age further if I want to.

"One of our pack members, Paul, came in last night with a bullet in his chest. He said that some hunter was out looking for game, and shot him. The hunter found him lying on the ground, and brought him home. I'm just worried about Paul, because the bullet was so close to his heart."

"I understand Dad. I'll go quickly to get the things you want." I got up and started walking to my house, so I could get some money. I grabbed my wallet from my nightstand and put it in my pocket (I left it there because I knew nobody would dare come in the Alpha's house and steal something from his daughter. And all of my family members are welcome to help themselves to my money).
