Winter breaks two months into their new routine. It's an ordinary day, for Karina, at least. They wake up, they have tense breakfast, and Ms Narae announces she wants to stay and 'bond with her daughters' instead of joining Mr. Yu for his next trip. Expected, really. For Karina, at least.

She senses Winter's agitation as she drives them to school. Her step sister is quiet and sullen, and for Winter, it's unusual.

Karina thinks Ms Narae severely misjudged her. The woman knows how serious Karina is about school – that's the only reason she let Karina drive Winter to school. That, and Karina's seemingly meek obedience. Ms Narae clearly hasn't taken into account how serious Karina is about her daughter.

She takes a sharp turn, causing Winter to widen her eyes and look around.

"Karina?"

She's surprised when her voice isn't shaking at having disrupted her routine. "We're taking the day off." She won't lie – it is mildly uncomfortable. But Winter's smile, while sad, is gorgeous, and she tightens her hold on her hand as she aimlessly drives somewhere into the woods. They park near a small river, not too far from the main road – Karina wants them to spend the day together, not get hopelessly lost. As soon as she turns the engine off, Winter is in her arms.

"Hey," Karina is surprised. "It's alright, Winter-"

"No," Her step sister interrupts. She's agitated, even Karina can sense that. "No, it's not. She's – Karina, I hate her. So much."

Karina presses a small kiss to the top of Winter's head, sighing. She knows where she's coming from. She also knows Winter doesn't mean this. "You don't."

It's a small pause before Winter replies. "Fine. I don't. But I hate this."

Karina's confused. "But – you've been okay," she says. "With Aeri and everything..."

"God, Karina – but it's not enough," Winter exclaims. Her hands clutch the front of her shirt, then. Travel up to her neck and glide over her shoulders before resting on her face, and Karina gets it.

She blinks, remembering the way Winter clung to her during their short, stolen time together. Her gasps, desperate and quiet. She was so sad the entire time, how did she not see this? Because it was enough for me, Karina thinks. The whole set up isn't ideal, but it makes sense to Karina, and she's okay with it as long as she simply gets to see Winter and talk to her and just be near her. To her, car drives and movie nights with Aeri are enough. But Winter is normal. Winter craves the touch. And ever since the parents came back home, she's been starving for it.

Karina thinks about acceptance letters stashed in her bag, and her hold on Winter tightens. She doesn't know what to say. But Winter's eyes find hers, and she thinks they don't have to talk at all.

The journey to the backseat is fumbled and hurried, just like their kisses. Winter is impatient, and, even though lately every kiss has been full of urgency, this time it's on a whole another level. She gasps when Winter thrusts her hand down her pants, moaning at finding her ready. They still don't talk when Winter tears her pants off her. They don't talk when Winter pushes her onto her back and descends down her body, leaving quick, hurried kisses on her chest and stomach. And there is not much Karina can say when Winter's mouth closes around her throbbing clit.
