Chapter 32: Rescue Mission

Start from the beginning

Tony somehow got the plans of the building and we know we have quite some way until we probably arrive at the point where Natasha and y/n could be. It took him a further week to work that out and I got nervous more and more, my impatience growing with each passing day.

If I could, I would have gone after y/n right after we watched that video but Clint talked to me and explained that I can't do that, for my own safety and because I'm now part of a team where we work together. Since then I trained even more to be ready to safe the girl who brightened up my day when I was locked up in my cell.

Once everything is talked through, we get up and go our separate ways. Tomorrow will be the day, I get my friend back. Or is she more than a friend to me? I don't know but that's something I can think about after tomorrow.

My alarm goes off very early but I still jump out of bed and get ready for the mission. I meet Thor downstairs, in front of the room with the weapons and suits. Tony loves creating new suits so he made me one and I think it's cool. We get tour suits and it feels weird to "dress up" for a mission but I feel kinda powerful in my suit. Tony hands us ear-pieces so we can communicate and we get into the quitjet.

My leg starts to bounce while we fly to our destination. I hope everything will work out and I can hold y/n in my arms very soon.
The flight doesn't take long and I look at Clint who is paired up with me. He looks calm and nods once, reassuring me that everything will be fine.

"We're here." Steve announces and he and Tony turn around to face us. He checks in on everyone's coms while Tony gets a laptop out and sets up everything. When he gives a thumbs up, Steve opens the jet and we step out. I follow Clint through some woods and watch as the others split up as well.

After a few minutes of walking, we reach an electric fence that's in front of a huge building, made out of bricks. Looking at it and knowing there are also floors beneath the ground, I swallow harshly and get nervous we might not find them. Clint rests his hand on my shoulder and smiles shortly before he tells the others we're in position and in front of an electric fence. The others reach their destinations as well and I move my hand to feel the little grenade with the sleeping gas inside one of my pockets.

After a deep breath, I concentrate on the mission and as soon as Tony gives us a go, the silent humming of the fence in front of us stops and we know it's not loaded anymore. Clint gets out a knife and cuts a hole in the fence so we can use it as an escape later as well. We climb through it and watch our surroundings as we run towards the building. The front door opens easily and we slip inside, a weird silence welcoming us. But there's probably no one on this floor anyways so that explains the silence.

We hush towards the stairs to get down and follow the hallway. When we hear some steps, we hide behind a corner and watch two older women walking by. My breath is shallow as we continue our way.

Suddenly an alarm goes off and I look over at Clint when Tony says Thor and Bruce have been spotted. This just got more complicated.
After a few more corners, we are meet with three girls who are around seven. They look at us in surprise at first, before they get into fighting position. I can't hurt children, that's messed up and they're not even armed.

Clint keeps a straight face and points his arrow at one girl. Is he seriously going to shoot a little girl?
But before he can do anything, the girls turn around and run off quickly, scared by the weapon. Clint looks pleased and I realize that he just wanted to scare them off. On our further way we don't meet anyone else.

We reach a big room with a lot of tables and look around, it's empty. I shrug but Clint lays a finger over his lips and motions for me to put my mask on. He does too and only seconds later a lot of women storm the room and he grabs a grenade and pulls the safety pin out of it. The gas releases instantly and the women slump onto the ground, fast asleep. Well, that worked quite good.
