In all of my years of living, I never had anything to convince me I was above average.. I wake up in the morning and go to work. I go to bed each evening after calling my father and telling him about my day. Nothing about me is insanely interesting, I'm just kind of there. I'm not strange though, in an unlikeable sort of way. I'm attractive, and smart, but there are millions of people in the world who share those same characteristics.
Maybe it's my crippling anxiety, or lacking social skills, but it wasn't until I met Stephanie Holland that I realised people thought differently. She changed any perceived notion I had about how people lead their lives, for her unconventional was heaven, for anyone three feet of her it was hell.
Stephanie Holland, would refuse to be described as anything less than an internet sensation. Starting her career on a popular video sharing app, her "take no shit" attitude and perfectly carved abs quickly gained her attention. I had seen a couple of her most famous videos, in one of which she had people at a nightclub lick whipped cream off her collarbone. But I never thought I would work with her.
I'm a journalist for a pretty good sized publishing company. My roommate in college got me the job through her uncle, he said they needed a fresh face. That's exactly what I was. A 22 year old nail biter who could somehow charm the socks off a statue.
This worked beautifully in New York. My first assignments were mostly reporting dive bars, and underground concerts. My work had been featured more than I ever expected but I realised most people would rather talk to the pretty 22 year old, over the 46 year old divorcee who only sees his kids on weekends and that helped with my success. My company knew this, and used it to their advantage.
So when I was approached with Stephanie Holland, I wasn't too taken aback. I knew who she was, everyone knew who she was. She was the epitome of daddy's money who's only aspiration is to be a trophy wife. So when I reached out, I honestly wasn't sure she was going to respond.
It was a few days later I saw her email pop up on my computer. I was hesitant at first to open it excpecting to read something like "fuck off you stalker" but I was pleasently surprised. It was a simple two letter response leaving me to scramble. "KK '' was all that showed on the screen. I hate to say that I was unprepared, but my rude awakening was only about to begin.
I emailed back and agreed to spend a weekend with her. She called me babes and sent me her address throwing all caution to the wind. For all she knew I could've been an old perv looking to see if I could get anything from an impressionable girl, but I wasn't, I am honestly grateful for her sake that I wasn't. I asked her about this later and she said she looked me up, I would be a fool to believe her. But I chose to tell myself that I did to let my heart still.
I spent hours the night before I was supposed to meet her trying to decide what to pack. I didn't want to be seen next to a beautiful and sexually explicit celebrity looking like an oaf. So I dug through her feed and my closet finding outfits she would deem suitable. I settled on bodysuits and belly tops that were leaps and bounds out of my comfort zone, thinking that would be a theme for our excursion. I was right.
She told me not to come before 2 pm, she wouldn't be awake. So I arrived at 2:15 after sitting in my car for twenty minutes. She buzzed me in and I can remember so perfectly the way the elevator smelt leading to her studio apartment.
It smelt new, not really clean but it would be insulting to say it smelt dirty. It was strangely comforting. I knocked on the door and about a minute later there stood Stephanie in all her glory, holding a coffee cup that said "the boobs are real, the smile is fake '' It was so fitting.
