subject: missing your smile

dear jay,

i remember the first time we met, i was enchanted by our beautiful eyes. the new neighbor was indeed attractive. i wanted to be friends with you, but i was afraid. kids would always avoid me because they don't want to catch any viruses from me. well, i understand. but sometimes, i do wonder how it feels like to have a friend.

i would always sit in front of our house and which other kids play and laugh. i was always jealous because i can't play like them.

then, you walked near me.

i told you to walk a little more farther. your face looked curious ― or disappointed. i didn't intend to make that sound mean.

i apologized afterwards and told you that i have cystic fibrosis. you were confused and i simply explained that you might get sick because of me.

but you didn't look scared.

you even flashed a smile and that was the most alluring smile i have ever seen.
