piangevole [it.] — plaintive;
in the style of a lament

the two decided to eat somewhere near campus grounds as quqi had a class in one and a half hour's time. luckily for them, there were still some cheap and affordable options near the campus.

"what do you want to eat?" kageyama asked as quqi linked arms with him. he had come to learn that she was quite a picky and fussy eater, and would only eat specific foods that she liked.

"something light would be good," she said and frowned in thought before lifting her eyebrows as eureka struck her, "actually, you know what, let's get rice bowls instead! your favourite!"

kageyama's eyes immediately brightened and he nodded, "okay, let's get rice bowls."

the two walked out of the main gates and headed to the small junction to cross over to the other side, with quqi humming a tune under her breath softly while tapping her fingers against the side of her thigh. kageyama noticed this out of the corner of his eye and asked, "do you have a performance coming up?"

"yeah, how did you know that?" she turned to face him with widened eyes.

the road was clear and kageyama grabbed her hand, tugging her closer towards him as they crossed the road.

he pointed towards her restless hand which was still tapping away on her leg, "you're doing that finger-tapping thing and you're humming something. that usually means you have something coming up soon."

she grinned and nudged his arm with a chuckle, "ooh, you sure are observant!"

they walked towards the rice bowl store and she continued, "yeah, the music faculty has an orchestra concert coming up and i'm gonna be performing in it. wanna come watch?"

he nodded, "when is it gonna be held?"

"sometime in early february," she said, "i'll text you the details."

she turned her head and peered into the rice bowl shop and her expression immediately faltered: a slight frown settled on her features and she muttered, "oh boy, she's here."

kageyama turned her head to look through the window of the rice bowl shop to see what had caused her expression to change so much. his eyes focused on the people who caught her attention: it was nakajima and erika, sitting together at the same table.

"it's erika and nakajima-senpai," he said, a frown also appearing on his face.

both soulmates were now staring into the shop with matching expressions with an awkward atmosphere lingering over them.

quqi was the first to speak up, "well, do you want to eat here?"

"i'm okay with it," he said with a huff, "well, do you want to eat here?"

"it's fine with me too," she puffed her chest out, let go of kageyama's hand, and crossed her arms, "let's go in."

before kageyama could stop her, she reached for the door and opened it. he sighed, trailing after her. the employee's cheerful "irasshaimase!" entered their ears as a server guided them towards a table. quqi tried her best to avoid eye contact with nakajima and erika, but that plan failed as nakajima called out, "huan-san?"
