...

THUD

"Dammit," I huff as I pick myself off the ground. I would say I regret falling asleep on the marble island in the kitchen, but the cool surface was soothing compared to the lazily placed blanket on the ground.

I've only just moved into my new house yesterday, all the unopened boxes are cluttered around the living room... And not a single ounce of my soul has the motivation to find the futon. Ma's making a second trip to our old house, and I recall her saying, "No way in hell am I paying for a moving truck when I can do it for cheap."

With a quick check of the time, I realize how long I slept. It's nearly 4 o'clock in the afternoon, and though my mom also said she'd be home by this morning, I don't mind the false information, since I already heard her friends invite her to spend the night after the three hour drive to Fukuoka. And I heard them thinking of drinking all night as a farewell party, although it's never a surprise.

And yeah, I heard it, since it's my quirk... Well, one of them, at least. Telepathy has been one of my quirks since I was three, I guess I was an early bloomer. However, only Ma, a few scientists, and teachers who actually took the time to read my profile know about this gift. A few months after finding out, she asked me to keep it between us both. And I guess it makes sense, I had upset many of my preschool classmates when I'd constantly destroy them in games, and they'd freak out when their own voices echoed in their minds.

I was finally able to properly control it when I was around the age of four, now I could manipulate people's thoughts (but I try not to abuse the power) or selectively hear them as I choose. It's become so easy to use that I could identify my mother's internal voice easier than I could through a call. But around the same time, a flurry of new quirks began to manifest. And the doctor put me through a few months of tests to identify them, the majority all had to do with psychic ability, while another chunk being the amplification of strength or other physical abilities.

I'm forced to snap out of my thoughts as my stomach gurgles, and I sigh at the reminiscence.

I need to get something to eat...

I look to the door, and then glance at the wooden floor where I sit.

... Maybe in a few minu—

My stomach continues to scream at me.

"Why do you treat me this way?" I mumble to myself, groggily picking my lazy ass off the floor. As of now, I only don a pair of grey sweats, while my dirty shirt's lying on the messy blanket where I was supposed to sleep.

After a solid minute of contemplating whether I should get a new one or just go shirtless, I drag the box labeled Haku's clothes towards me with my mind. I tear the tape off and grab the pastel pink t-shirt my mom gave me from the store. It was on discount, and I know how she gets with those sales.

I slip it on; its cartoony, peach flavored milk carton print rustling as I pull the shirt over my body; and I put on some slides. I grab my new key, my wallet, and my phone before I walk out and lock the door.

(teensy-weensy time skip)

I've just found out that the nearest convenience store to me is fifteen minutes away by foot, and I wouldn't mind on most occasions. But that would take at least forty minutes until I get back home. And I did not want to teleport after being scolded countless times by Ma for doing it in public. But it's so convenient—
