Chapter 19 - Pointless Hesitation

Alison: "Honey... where's Kiji?"

Honey: "Likely been suspended. But don't worry, he should be back in a couple days."

Alison: "Did he get in trouble because of me?"

Honey: "What? No, of course not. Now you listen to me."

He cupped my cheeks and made me look him in the eyes.

Honey: "Don't go blaming yourself for anything that happened. Okay? I'm serious, Ali, nothing was your fault."

I nodded. He kissed my nose and I smiled.

Alison: "By the way, what is it you were going to tell me earlier?"

His cheeks turned red.

Honey: "Uhm... it was nothing... don't worry yourself about it."

Honey: 'I made her promise not to blame herself... but she could still blame me... if that's the case, then where would be the point in asking her to marry me? Does she still trust me?'

Alison: "Hm..."

The next day, Honey was helping me with some physical therapy. Holding my hands while I got used to walking by myself again.

Honey: "You're doing much better, babe."

Alison: "I feel silly... I'm twenty years old... yet it's like I'm a toddler learning to walk."

Honey: "Ahah, that's a bit of a stretch."

He caught me when I tripped over my feet a couple times.

Alison: "Damn it!"

Honey: "Careful. Don't rush yourself."

Alison: "I know, it's just... it's just frustrating..."

Honey: "I'm sorry..."

Honey: 'If I had only been stronger... quicker... smarter... you wouldn't have had to go through that hell.'

I noticed him frowning.

Alison: "What's wrong?"

Honey: "Uh- nothing. Don't worry about anything."

Alison: "If you say so..."

Honey: "Come on, you're almost there."

Alison: 'I wish you'd tell me what's bothering you... it's not guilt, is it? I don't blame you for anything, Honey... You saved me, and I feel safe now that I'm home with you. Less than forty eight hours ago, I thought you were dead. Words couldn't even describe how happy and relieved I was when I saw you again. I still am. Please don't feel guilty, Hon.'

Honey: 'I failed you...'

Alison: 'I love you...'

Honey: 'I don't think I can do it...'

The next evening...

Honey: "Come on, Ali, let go."

Alison: "No."

I had my arms wrapped tight around him.

Honey: "You're making this harder than it needs to be."

Alison: "I want you to stay here!"

Honey: "We're in different cells, babe. So, as a practice, you need to sleep on your own tonight."
