Chapter one: Men-Hunting

****

Highway to Hell flooded in my ears, succeeding in blocking the sound of my own rapid breath and racing heart. I synced my lips with the lyrics and moved my legs faster with the beat. The sun had already risen in the sky, seaming to be glaring at me with its heated rays, as to scold me for starting my jogging late today.

I paid it no attention as I continued running the familiar route to mum's mansion. The compound residents had started to compel to the new day requirements. Some already in their cars and driving down the road, others thought of starting the day with a good run like me, the major probably were breaking their fast so they could join the rest of DC in the process of the first day of hell rituals, aka Monday.

That being said, an alert started buzzing in the back of my mind as I neared the mansion. My poor mind knowing what Mondays meant —other than it being the torture first day but I finished university anyway so it didn't bother me that much— it meant a dragon for a mum for she kept breathing fire till she went to work. Highway to hell indeed.

I shuddered with dread.

I was pulled out of my thoughts with the loud groans of a gate being opened. The calm music that started playing didn't manage to block the sound of the gate out. The gate to hell maybe. I looked to my right to find the outer gate of a villa being opened; a sleek silver car coming from behind it. Right away I realised who that was. Xavier Benson, an elegant handsome bachelor in his late twenties or maybe his early thirties, who happened to work in the business field. I pretended not to have noticed him and continued on my way, only for his car to beep.

"Hey!" his deep voice came from my left. I stopped and turned to face him. He had rolled down the window so he could talk to me. Sitting in the driver seat wearing a black suit with a white dress shirt underneath and the first few buttons opened; just like that with no tie. Making sure that every girl's imagination runs wild with the thoughts of the hard chest that surely lay there. His brown hair was gelled to perfection, honey brown eyes twinkling in the sunlight that was steaming through the front window.

"Morning, Xavier," I greeted, the smirk on my face mirroring his. Taking my headphones out.

"Morning, Berry," he said, running his hand along the steering wheel, making sure to throw me a charming smile showing a rather pointed teeth. It looked more like a wolfish smile to me. Pulling a face I know too well. A trick all men do when they try to charm a woman. Well played Xavier.

"Want a ride?" he asked seductively, like a predator luring the prey into its lair. I couldn't help but laugh at the true meaning behind his question. Nothing would have ever went around in his head except for women and wealth. But then again, weren't all men like this.

"Sorry babe, but my answer is still a no," I replied smoothly then fled before he could add anything but not before I saw the defeated look on his face.

1 Berry / 0 Xavier

Mum's mansion finally came into view. I slowed my steps until I reached the gate. I pressed on the intercom, taking big gulps of air and waiting for Tom to know that it was me. Seconds later, a small door in the gate opened, revealing Tom's forever miserable face, though I never knew why so. Maybe it came as a part of the job, or maybe he was just too lazy to change his face features.

"Good morning, Ms.Blair," he said in that croaky voice of his. Sometimes, it felt like he was struggling to form words.

"Tommy!" I acknowledged him, but failed to keep the smile out of my face as his features bacame more miserable upon hearing the nickname from my lips. He hated it with passion, I remember asking him why one time.
