Chapter 3.

“Taylor, it’s really okay. You don’t need people to tell you that you’re pretty or beautiful. You have to convince yourself. You are the only one who matters” Chris stated. Taylor snorted once.

“Do you spend a lot of time with your Uncle?” She asks.

“Not really, why?”

“Because you and him have both said the same things to me lately. It’s kind of freaky.” She smiles up at Chris.

“Well, great minds think alike.” He jokes. “You do know that it is, like, 7:00 now, right?” Taylor had cried for a while before she could even begin to stop. Chris hadn’t left her and comforted her. After she had calmed down a bit, almost three or four hours later, she sat down and worked on her sketches silently. She expected Chris to get up and leave, but instead, when she was done, she found him sitting right next to her, looking at her drawings.

“Yeah, well, this is how I spend most of my days anyways. Sketch and examine, sketch and examine.” Taylor rolls her eyes. “Then I go home and do what my mom tells me to do or grant her every wish for more food. After that I usually listen as my sister and she tell me how worthless I am.”

“Well, it doesn’t have to be that way.” Chris says simply.

“What are you talking about, Pretty Boy?”

“Well. I could hang here during the day and then we can do something when you’re done here. We could go for coffee, out to dinner, movies, or something like that.” He shrugs.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Taylor laughs. Like someone as wonderful as him would want to spend practically all his time with her? Yeah right.

“No, I’m not.”

“Why would you want to spend all your time with me though? Why would you even want to be seen out in public with this, this thing on my face?”

“I already told you, I don’t care what people think. I want to spend my time with you because you’re beautiful and I like you. It’s funny; I’ve only known you for, what, two days now? I already feel like I’m falling for you. I already feel like I can tell you anything and that I could see myself walking around with you and showing you off to everyone.”

“Don’t even think of ‘showing me off’ to people. They’ll just judge me and, in turn, you.”

“I told you, I don’t care.”

“Whatever.”

“So are we still on for coffee tonight?”

“I never answered you, remember?”

“Okay, then, do you want to go out for some coffee?”

“Sure I guess so.”

“Alright, let’s go.” Chris’s goofy smile was entertaining to Taylor and she thought that maybe she could like him if he would give it a little time. First, she had to make sure this wasn’t a charity act. She had to make sure he didn’t just feel bad because of the scar that was featured on her face.

“Stop hiding your face with your hair, Taylor! You are beautiful, can’t you see that?!” Chris exclaimed. He was becoming more and more aggravated with how self-conscious Taylor was.
