Sarah walked down the street with a fixed destination in her mind.

She had a girlfriend due to get off work in five minutes and she planned to be there when she did.

She had a whole afternoon planned out for the two of them and Katherine had no idea.

Being 'roommates' had its perks too.

They didn't have to worry about questioning why they were out together so often or for so long.

She smiled as she saw Katherine leaving the Sun building.

"Katherine," she called out, grabbed the girl in question's attention.

Katherine made her way over after bidding her farewells to her coworkers.

"What are you doing here?" she asked. "I thought you were working."

"I was but it's young Michael's birthday and there wasn't any work booked so we closed up an hour early so I thought I'd come get you," she explained.

Sarah worked as a seamstress in a small family run shop.

The lady who ran it, Margaret, had planned to pass it down to her eldest daughter, the way it had been for many generations prior.

Unfortunately, she did not have any daughters, she had plenary of sons, but no daughters.

Her family and the Jacobs family were close friends so when she heard that the eldest daughter of the Jacobs was looking for a job, she immediately offered Sarah an apprenticeship.

She planned for Sarah to own the business when she was old enough and when Margaret could no longer work.

"How is Margaret?" Katherine asked. "I feel like I haven't seen her in a while."

"You'll have to come by with me some day, she's always asking for you."

"I'll see if I can write an article about the shop, get her some more money for the boys."

Sarah smiled. "That sounds like a good idea. But for now we have a date so buckle up."

"What are we doing on said date?"

"Well, to start off we are going to go for a stroll, then we will we have a picnic and then back to the apartment for cuddles. Sound good?"

"I can't argue with cuddles," Katherine laughed.

"Let's go then, the sooner we do the rest of our date the sooner we can get cuddles." Sarah looped her arm through Katherine's, not in an overly romantic way, rather in a way gal-pals might.

"Where are we having our picnic?" Katherine asked. "Because this looks like we're going in the exact same direction as the apartment."

"I thought we would have it on the roof of our apartment block, that way we can hold hands and kiss and whatnot without worrying about being seen."

Katherine smiled. "Thank you, you thought this through so well."

"I try."

There favourite part about walking in the busy parts of New York was that nobody suspected them to be up to anything illegal, or as it is more commonly known, dating.

No, if someone saw them they might just think they were best friends out for a walk and having a laugh while doing so.

"Did you get any good articles today?" Sarah asked.

"Just one on prices rising with the summer months coming," she explained. "Pretty basic, hopefully something big will come in soon."

"Bigger than a strike?"

"Nothing will be bigger than the ego of Jack Kelly," Katherine joked. "Or the brain of your twin."

"Well, one of us needed to be a genius. I've got the good looks so he needed the brain."

"You're not wrong about the good looks," Katherine agreed.

They said hello to one of their neighbours they passed on their way to the roof.

"We need to get something for her," Sarah whispered to Katherine once they passed on.

"Why?"

"It's her birthday next week," she explained. "She got us both something for our birthdays so we need to get her something."

"I did not know that's when her birthday is," Katherine said.

"One of us has to be a people person and I'm sorry but that's not you. You do enough peopling at work, it's my turn the rest of the time."

"Thank you love."

"Let's go get our picnic."

The picnic was everything Katherine could have asked for.

Sarah had made her favourite sandwich and put some cakes she'd made over the weekend in the basket.

"This is amazing," Katherine said. "You didn't have to do so much for me."

"Of course I did, you're my girlfriend and you deserve everything."

Katherine smiled and leaned into Sarah.

Sarah wrapped her arms around Katherine while Katherine rubbed her hands along her girlfriend's arms.

Sarah pressed a gentle kiss to the top of Katherine's head.

"I love you baby," she whispered.

"I love you too," Katherine replied.
