Chapter 3: Tomorrow is Another Day

"Do you want the Millelith to give us a ticket? Go on now, inside, all of you!"

He pushed them into the hallway of the apartment complex, still suppressing his laughter when he saw Michael quickly brush past him, blushing out of embarrassment. The teen thought of hitting his sister upside the head, but considering what happened with Zhongli earlier, he didn't want to find out what power his teammates had, too. So he continued trucking along, smushed between Childe and Elizabeth, with Kaeya and Evan behind him.

"Okay," Childe whispered, unlocking the door before addressing Kaeya, "I'll tuck Lizzie and Ev into my bed, can you let Mike sleep in yours? We can just sleep on chairs and couches."

Kaeya grimaced, "Really? I've done a lot for other people today, I think I deserve a reward. That being sleeping in my own bed."

"Be courteous to our guests," his roommate frowned.

Childe continued heading for his room, ignoring whatever protests Kaeya was trying to make. This was a fight that Childe intended to win; he knew Kaeya was, at times, a pushover when it came to children. Although Michael could hear him complaining, he would still offer the bed up to the young teenager, and Michael would not hesitate to take advantage of the offer.

When Childe snapped back to reality, he found himself tucking the two youngest Aftons tightly into his bed. He could only hope they would miss the blood stains on his sheets from soaked bandages...

Gently, he closed the curtains to make sure no light would deal them a harsh awakening in the morning. As he pushed the door open slowly, he heard a small, boyish voice:

"Goodnight, Mr. Childe."

He snickered at the contradiction, "Goodnight, Evan."

As he shut the door, he couldn't help but think about two of his own siblings, Teucer and Tonia.

Late nights had been Kaeya's "thing" for as long as he could remember. The night was his time to think, his time to be alone. For how lonely he felt, he never seemed to catch a break from people.

He couldn't fall asleep; thoughts of his hometown were racing in his mind. It happened most nights, yet he still hadn't grown used to it. In truth, he was stuck searching for answers that he would never find.

Childe never knew about these endeavors. Usually, he would stand at the window in his room, relishing the dark of the night and how his blue clothing made him blend right in. He felt invisible, and he enjoyed it. But tonight, he had no room, so he walked out the rickety back door and stood on the wooden balcony. The wood creaked beneath his feet, and the wind poked at his eyes, but still, the night comforted him.

That was, until an eerie squeak came from beside him.

"Who's there?" he bellowed, swinging his sword in his hand. Fighting in pajamas wasn't the most ideal thing in the world, but Kaeya figured it would do. Not seeing anyone, he turned over his shoulder again to find a little girl backed up against the balcony's fence.

"Liz?" he exhaled, "Archons, don't scare me like that."

She let her head fall, "Sorry, I couldn't sleep, so I thought I could go exploring."

"You mean snooping, more like. Alright, come here," Kaeya patted the top of the fence next to him. Elizabeth waltzed over, resting her head on her elbows. When she was settled in, he asked, "Why couldn't you sleep?"

A silence washed over them, so he glanced at the girl who was tapping her fingers anxiously. He nudged her with his elbow.

"For the record, I couldn't sleep either."
