Chapter 1 - Intro-to-the-Duction

We all have hard times in our lives, times we just can't get over no matter how hard we may try.

Just like the time my best friend, Hunter left and never returned.

It was June 20th, four years ago back when I was 16.

"Where are you going?" I asked him. I was very worried and confused. I had many emotions going through me.

"I'm leaving for now." Hunter's eyes still hadn't met mine. He was too busy packing a small duffle bag, throwing random stuff in there.

"But why? What happened? Talk to me please,"

He ignored me and ran out of his room, down the stairs and I didn't hesitate to follow.

He walked out the door but turned back to me and said - "Allie, you wouldn't understand right now because-"

"Maybe I would understand if you just talked to me!" I yelled after him.

He shook his head and made his way down his pathway.

"You said we were best friends. Aren't we supposed to tell each other everything? Trust? Understand?" I mumbled through tears. When he heard this, he turned back around and walked back to me.

"Allie, I'll be back in a few days and when I come back, I'll tell you everything. I just... I need some time to think about things right now,"

I nodded, trying to understand.

"And when I come back, we can leave, go wherever you want to. I know your parents won't pay college for what you want to pursue and since you're my best friend, I want to make it up to you," Hunter said, forming a forced smile upon his face.

Something serious must've happened.

"I promise." Hunter said, really meaning it. When my best friend promised something, it was always fulfilled.

He kissed the top of my forehead and left to God knows where.

"I hope that's a promise you can keep," I mumbled, dragging myself back to my house.

This was one promise that wasn't.

I remembered that day like it was yesterday.

But now, I'm was just a sad, twenty year old woman sitting on a park bench with my friend, Marilyn.

I didn't go to college because I wanted to be a photographer but my parents didn't support me.

It was either becoming a doctor or nothing at all.

Of course, I still had to get a job to support myself and hopefully move out one day.

"Hello? Earth to Allie," Marilyn screamed in my ear.

"Woah, what is it?" I asked, obviously startled.

"Were you even listening to me? What's up with you?"

"Sorry it's just that June 20th is in a couple of days," I sighed, sliding my back against the bench.

"Oh how could I forget, he was my friend too," She tried smiling at me to make me feel better.

I just turned away and ignored her smile.

It's been four years and I still think about Hunter all the time.

"It's okay, everyone has forgotten about him. Even his own parents,"
