Lola shook her head and chuckled lightly. "It's there... You're free to use it." She said giving her permission. The grin on Ibukun's face was enough to brighten the cloudy weather.
She went over to hug her friend and planted two kisses on her cheeks.
"You know that I love you right?"
Lola rolled her eyes without saying anything. She was about to leave the kitchen to go and take the car key where Lola had kept it when she was stopped by the beeping sound of her phone.
She used her right hand to open the small yellow handbag that was hanging across her upper body and she brought out her phone. She read her message in less than thirty seconds and then dropped the phone back into the bag. She looked up at Lola who was staring at her.
"What is it?" Lola asked noticing the change in her friend's countenance.
"Hmm," Ibukun shifted uncomfortably from one leg to the other.
"Will you stop acting like a toddler?" Lola said.
"Demilade is here." Ibukun dropped the bombshell.
Lola froze on the spot she was.
"What? Is that a joke?" She was finally able to ask.
Ibukun walked closer to her. "No babe, it's not. I actually told his friend that you are here and I told them he could come over."
"But... But IB..." Her voice was filled with uncertainty and fear. "Why so soon? Is he not angry? Or is he that furious that he wants to end things?" Lola asked, fear oozing from her tone. Her heart was pounding frantically in her chest and tears clouded her vision. Ibukun just stared at her, feeling her fears.
"Lola..." She called calmly.
But it was not enough to calm her. She continued anyway.
"I am not ready to face him yet. I don't even know how I am going to face him after acting so stupidly." A single tear formed a narrow path along her cheek and she rubbed her nape, anxiously.
"You will have to face him sooner or later Lola. And that time is now." Ibukun stated matter-of-factly
"Why would he even come? I am the one at fault here." Lola said, more to herself than to Ibukun. She was pacing the narrow space in the kitchen. "I should be the one going to apologize...Not him. And..." She stuttered. "How... Why? How am I going to face him? I feel so stupid." She face-palmed herself, as she kept pacing the little space in the kitchen.
"Lola..." Ibukun called to draw her attention back. But she won't stop pacing. "Stop pacing around Lola." She half yelled at her. And that did the trick. She finally stopped and turned to her friend. Her eyes were glassy with tears and she kept rubbing her hands together, nervously.
"Lola, you're going to be fine. It's time you face your fear. Do you still like Demilade?"
Lola looked at her like she had grown two horns.
"I won't be in a panic if I don't. Do you know how I feel knowing I have let my stupidity hurt the man I love? All I have caused him in the last few weeks is pain. And that's all because of my immaturity." She said angrily with tears dropping from her eyes.
"Good. If you know you made a mistake, fix it. You don't have to run away from it. It is now or never. That guy still loves you. You have what most of us want. You have a guy that you never dreamt of. And that guy loves you. Don't ruin it now. You should act with maturity like you always do. This time don't let your emotions dictate for you. If you know you are wrong, correct it. Apologize. Admit it and let things go back to the way there were. At least, you've learned from this. I also learn from this. So babe... " She rubbed her arms soothingly. "Fix your relationship again. I want to see that awesome ring on your finger again and more importantly, I still want to wear that bride maid dress we talked about." Lola couldn't help but chuckle at her friend's remark despite her tears.
