Ibukun opened the door to the restaurant and walked inside in her usual confident and gallant way. She looked around the half-filled room and she didn't find who she was looking for. So she walked over to an empty seat at the center of the room. She was sure that the person she came to meet won't find it hard to see her in the position she decided to sit.
She sat down after pulling back one of the colored seats that surrounded an orange table. She dropped her small white handbag on the table. Then she waved at a waiter attending to the table in front of her. She needed to catch two birds with one stone. She was there to meet someone but it won't be a crime to satisfy the hunger she was feeling at the moment. So, while she waited for the waiter to finish attending to the table in front of her, she decided to keep herself busy. She was free for the day and she wasn't in a hurry. She logged into her Instagram account and kept herself busy.
The waiter came over to her side and he asked for what she wanted and she gave him her order.
Shortly after her meal, someone appeared in front of her. She looked up from her food and her face morphed into a surprised one. She looked back at the door entrance and back to the guy standing in front of her.
"Hi, I know you are surprised to see me IB. But please don't be." The guy standing in front of her said as he drew back the seat that was opposite her.
Ibukun mouth was wide open and it was clear that she was surprised.
Just what she was avoiding. She muttered inwardly.
"I'm surprised. Shocked in fact. I wasn't expecting you. Didn't even cross my mind that you will be here. Your wife was the one I was expecting." She admitted.
"I sincerely apologize for deceiving you."
"I'm shocked, to be honest. I had no idea this is a planned work." She admitted, biting her lower lips and twisting the handle of her spoon that was still in her food.
"I apologize. I am sorry. I put Helen through this. I actually asked Helen to call you so that you should both meet up and talk about old times. You formed quite a bond during the vacation and it has remained even after."
Ibukun nodded because that was actually the truth. She had hung out with Helen and her cousins a few times after the vacation and they also have been patronizing her business since then. And that is what made it easy to fall for their trap. Or game or whatever it was.
"She promised to call and apologized for fooling you and to make up for it."
"She definitely needs to," Ibukun said matter-of-factly, staring at Bayo in the eyes. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips and he nodded reassuringly to her.
"Better." She affirmed and she took a spoonful of her salad while she waited for Bayo to continue with whatever he wanted to say.
"IB, I am very certain that you know why I am here," Ibukun said nothing to that. She just keeps eating her food, although she glanced his way proving she heard what he said. "And that is one of the reasons why you've been avoiding all our calls."
"Yeah," She agreed. "you've all been calling me for the same reason and the same person despite my answer remaining the same."
"Please Ibukun, don't make this harder," Bayo begged. "She is your friend. We are talking about your best friend here."
Ibukun heaved a sigh and nodded. "I know this is about my friend Bayo. But my answer is the same. What else do you want me to say?"
"I know you are doing this for your friend. I totally get it. I really do. It's totally normal for you to cover up for your best friend. I really understand that. But this is also about your friend just as it is about mine. It's been almost a month... Three weeks and counting now and we've not heard anything from Lola."
