E L E V E N | GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN

Oh no, oh no, oh no.

Carter's little feet sped up and she swung her arms wildly as she ran away from the guard that was hot on her trail. She wanted to look back and see how close he was, but something told her it was a bad idea.

She knew it was a bad idea to be snooping around the control room, but she was just trying to find her granddad and the next thing the small seven-year-old knew was being chased down one of the many halls of the Ark, having been caught in an unauthorised area.

Eventually, her fatigue and curiosity got the best of her and she turned around, barely making out the grey uniform of the guard as he sprinted around the corner, though her attention was abruptly seized as she stepped the wrong way and ended up tripping over her own feet, flying straight into someone and sending them both crashing onto the floor.

"Ouch..." The boy moaned, rubbing the side of his head that had collided with Carter's. He looked up at how the small blonde scrambled up from the floor and looked back down the corridor with wide, slightly terrified eyes.

"Hey you!" A guard from the other end of the hall exclaimed, making the blonde gasp. "Stop right there!"

"Oh boy." Carter breathed, stumbling back as she tried to figure out a way to lose the guard. She was too tired to continue running, but she didn't know any other way.

Suddenly, the boy she collided with jumped to his feet and grabbed her hand, pulling her along with him. Carter's eyes widened with alert and she tried to yank her hand away from the boys, though it was only in vain.

"Hey! Let go of me!" She hissed through her teeth, trying to pry the boys grip. With an abrupt turn, the two children were suddenly off the hall and in a room. Carter heard the obnoxious hiss of the door shutting and she pushed herself away from the boy; both of which were gasping for air.

"What do you thin-"

"Shh!" The boy quickly shushed Carter and pressed his ear against the door. Moments later, Carter heard the faint thuds of running footsteps pass the room and the boy relaxed slightly before turning around to face Carter. "What did you do for him to chase you like that?"

"My mom said I'm not allowed to talk to strangers." Carter over-dramatically crossed her arms, turning her head up and to the side with a 'hmph'.

"Okay then," the boy shrugged, blowing his lock brown locks out of his face before extending his hand to her. "My name's Finn. Finn Collins."

Carter stared at his hand for a long time with uncertainty before meeting his hand with her own. "Carter," she replied, the sassiness in her tone fading. "Carter Kane."

"There," Finn grinned toothily, taking his hand back. "We're friends now, so you can tell me."

"Friends?" Carter repeated, scrunching up her nose in confusion. She had never had a friend before, mainly because her father wouldn't let her socialise outside their zone and Carter wasn't overly fond of the children in her zone.
