Jungkook nods slowly. "Please wait just a little." He says. Jimin's tone is angelic, full of patience and understanding, yet he's more afraid than ever to make a mistake and take it all away. "I'm sorry it's taking so long, but I think you'll love it."
"It's fine." With his hand over his chest, discreetly of course, his heart skipping beats, Jimin laughs into the growing silence. "I don't really mind it. Unlike you, I don't have to work tomorrow."
"Who says I have to work tomorrow?" The finality of the statement catches Jungkook off guard. Jimin must have obtained some kind of mind reading abilities in their absence from one another.
"Well," Jimin begins, turning his body towards the other as much as his seatbelt will allow. "Seeing as how tomorrow is a week day, which typically results in a work day, you just had some time off to recover from a head injury, and I'm positive that your purpose for being in the country in the first place is to work, I just assumed that's what you would be doing tomorrow. No?"
Jungkook glances over at the smaller, his teeth holding his bottom lip hostage at this point. "I mean," He mutters finally, feeling called out. The fact that Jimin doesn't know that he's his own boss and skipping a day of work could mean whatever he wants it to mean, he doesn't have to answer to anyone, is equally as concerning as it is exciting. It's truly been a while since his status hasn't been included in conversation with another person. "It's alright if I take the day off tomorrow." He chuckles lowly under his breath. "If it comes to that."
"Mm." Jimin hums. "And what would it take to make you take the day off tomorrow?"
What a loaded question. It could mean a lot of things, some more appropriate than others to discuss given their current relationship status; just friends or whatever that means for them. Jungkook settles on the most convenient answer available, ears hot under the pressure of the situation now. "Not a lot, if I'm being honest." Only Jimin can make him feel this way over close to nothing notable happening at all. At least the conversation hasn't stopped. At least Jimin wants to talk to him, to ask him questions, or to understand anything at all about his life. With only this his heart is soaring, his head is in the clouds. If only his ears weren't on fire. If only he didn't feel like every single word that drips off of his tongue was make it or break it, the greatest risk.
The tang of ocean waves breach the sealed windows of the vehicle before they come into view, lifting the silence that's settled between them. "We're near the ocean?" Jimin proclaims under the disguise of a question because the smell of the sea is unmistakable. It all starts to make sense, that the surprise Jungkook promised would be something he'd love. Of course it would be this and nothing else would make sense quite the same. Jungkook made sure that the sound, the smell, the sight of sea waves slapping the shore line would always remind him of those weekend beach trips. The long rides back home after watching the sun take a dip beneath purple waters, the sky painted a brilliant collage of oranges and pinks, was always the best part of the day. As soon as the chill of the night would settle in the sand it was a relief to curl into the seat next to Jungkook, windows up and heater on low, cozy and warm with the others long fingers in a loose grip around his thigh. The present feels like a memory, one he's held close throughout the years they've been apart. It's been something sort of like a dream, or a plot of a movie. He never imagined he'd feel this way again and especially not beside the very same person that caused him so much pain.
"Is that alright?" Reading the expression on Jimin's face is kind of like reading a newspaper upside down on like two hours of sleep. He starts to wonder if he should've checked with the other before bringing him here, but maybe he's just overthinking things. "We don't have to-"
"Shh, no. It's fine." Jimin waves a hand between them dismissively. He sits up straighter in his seat and leans closer to the window, peering through its tinted glass in hopes of seeing those purple, hazy waves once again. They always glistened brighter under the moon light in a way that the sun would be jealous of. "I wanna see it." Marius comes to mind. It was only days ago he left the man at a beach front resort, trading those blue waves for white hospital walls. And Jungkook, because of course he did it for Jungkook. He's beginning to accept that what's always been considered special to him, the ocean and late night walks or staying up until 3am talking, are special things because they happened first with somebody he loved with everything he had and never really learned how to stop loving. That's the part that is bound to break him. That and the fact that he doesn't want to let go of Jungkook. "Can we go see the water now?"
