"One of the most rewarding things about living in the Glade for a very long time is that you get to see each and every Glader grow older. You can see them trying to learn who they are and what they exactly want to do in life. I know that many of us hate to admit it, but our phases were probably the best thing about finding our own identity. Minho, believe it or not, went through a scenic phase. He had all of these beads and a shucking fringe and what not. Jeff was the worst, since he knew that he could heal people, he told each and every one of us to call him the 'holy doctor.' We went with it but we had to change it. It wasn't until we told him to perform a ritual which included drinking animal pee when he realized that he shouldn't be too cocky. And William, I love that kid. William had it the worst. he was a buff kid with a heart of gold, but on the inside, he was shy and insecure. We all knew what was going on we also kept on hinting for him to tell us. That night during our bonfire, he came out. For his bravery, we hold a celebration every year on the same exact date, urging all of the other boys to reveal what they're scared to tell us. It is the acceptance that a growing child needs. No, every person should feel as if he or she were part of a group because the feeling of knowing that you're safe and loved is everything. You can bet on William and his lover, Ethan, agreeing to that."
