Chapter 8 (Trigger Warning)

Start from the beginning

Then, McKayla remembers.

Her cellphone.

She began to cry tears of some kind of joy as she pulled it out of her pocket and dialled 911.

"911, What is your emergency?"

"My name is McKayla McClain. S-Someone has a gun. Th-They're shooting. They're shooting in my school." McKayla tells the opperator.

"We've gotten several calls regarding the situation; the police are on their way."

"I've been shot. I-I was sh-shot in the leg and I can't get the bullet out. I-It's too deep."

"Are you bleeding heavily?"

"Yes."

"Are you near an exit?"

"Um...I-I think so."

"Do you have any idea who the shooter is or if they're near you?"

"I-I just heard a shot a few minutes ago. It sounded close." McKayla says, beginning to whisper, "I don't know who the shooter is or how many there are."

"Okay, then just stay put where you are. Where are you? Is there anyone with you?"

"I'm alone. I'm in the janitor's closet in the west wing."

"We'll make sure someone finds you and that you get medical assistance as soon as possible. In the mean time you need to -"

But McKayla hangs up before she can hear any more. This was bullshit. She was literally bleeding to her death. If McKayla was going to do anything, she was going to try to escape. She knew it was a big risk, but it was worth the risk if it gave her a chance to see her parents and her brother again.

Meanwhile.

Matthew didn't shoot anyone in the room, but he did shoot at some test tubes which caused them to break, sending glass flying about the chemistry lab. The glass hit some of the kids in the room, but no one was seriously injured. Everyone was in tears now though, Matthew included.

"Now you know what it's like! To be doing something as simple as sitting in a classroom and feeling like you could get seriously injured or even killed, even when there are other people right there who probably could take the bullet for you, but you know they won't."

Matthew then gets interrupted by the sound of someone crying. He looks around, but no one in the room was making the noise he was hearing.

"Who is that?" Matthew asks.

The black boy walks over and follows the crying. He then gasps and takes someone's hand. There was a girl hiding under the teacher's desk. A girl with down syndrome to be exact. The boy helps her stand and hugs her. She was crying hysterically.

"Lonny Turner." Matthew states.

Lonny looks at Matthew and gasps at the sight of the gun. She starts crying even harder.

Matthew looks to the boy and points the gun at him, "Step away from her or I'll shoot you dead right now."

The boy swallows, "I'm sorry, Lonny." He says before walking off.

"N-No don't leave me!" Lonny cries.

Matthew steps forward, "Lonny," He says, approaching her, "Ssshhh, Lonny...I'm not going to hurt you." He whispers on the brink of tears, "Lonny...Do people at this school ever make fun of you?"

Lonny sniffles, then nods.

"And you don't like that, do you?"

Lonny shakes her head.
