"Alright I know you guys are excited for the sports festival but first this weekend you have a huge essay to write." Present mic practically sang to us. "It's a 20-page essay, due Monday. Now before you all freak out I'm assigning these but in. 4 groups of four and one group of five." This time the class groaned for an entirely different reason. Everyone knew assigned groups were never good. Present Mic started walking around handing out the papers with the groups on them.
"Now class listen up! The groups and topics you will be writing will be on the top. I recommend you meet at someone's house consecutively this weekend if you want to finish this on time." I was staring at the table. Group project? Damn it! What if they find out I'm smartish. Maybe if it's people I don't know well they won't notice. "Here you go, Suhan." He said handing me a sheet. "By the way class, I made these based on recommendations from Mr. Aizawa and All might. Enjoy. Don't forget to leave your notes in the bin."
Group 1: Tsuyu Asai, Ochaco Uraraka, Tenya Iida, Mezo Shoji. Topic: The Journey to U.A.
Group 2: Denki Kaminari, Hanta Sero, Rikodo Sato, Minoru Minata. Topic: U.S.J and what to do in a crisis
Group 3: Mina Ashido, Momo Yaoyorozu, Kyoka Jiro, Toru Hagakuru. Topic: The Difficulties of Being Female in the Hero Industry.
Group 4: Fumikage Tokoyami, Mashirao Ojiro, Yugi Aoyoma, Koji Koda. Topic: How to do Hero Work from the Shadows
Group 5: Izuku Midoriya, Eijiro Kirishima, Shoto Todoroki, Suhan Taniguchi, Katsuki Bakugo. Topic: Why Friendship, Camaraderie, and Teamwork are important for a Hero to be Successful.
As I stared at the page scanning for my name and find it; I realize as I read the group and topic that this was going to be a shit show. I raised my hand before Bakugo could even think.
"Oh yes, Suhan do you have a question?"
"Um... yes," I said looking towards the rest of the people in my group. "With all due respect sir... um are you, Mr. Aizawa, and All Might trying to get us killed?" He laughs at the question.
"Why do you ask?"
"It's just that anyone who has eyes can see that Bakugo wants to murder Izuku at most times of the day and me, Kiri, and Shoto are about to become collateral damage."
"HEY! THAT'D ONLY HAPPEN IF YOU GOT IN MY WAY!"
"That's not helping Bakugo!"
"Suhan... we chose these groups and these topics for you specifically. We knew the risk and we did this in hope that it would bring some people closer together." He said choosing this moment to pointedly stare at Izuku and Bakugo as well as me and Todoroki. "Now Kirishima is collateral damage."
"Well, that's not a very manly thing to be called."
"No, you are out of your mind if you think I'm going to work with useless Deku, Shitty Hair, Half 'n' Half, and Midget."
"I'm legitimately like three inches shorter than you," I say with an annoyed tone.
"Whatever streaks! I can't work with these people!"
"It's 20 percent of your grade Katsuki so I strongly advise you suck it up."
"Hey, you're no cakewalk either," I said with a defeated sigh. There is no way he's going to let us change groups. Todoroki leaned over towards Kirishima.
"Why would someone walk on cake?"
"It's not that literal Todo."
"Oh." As the rest of the class prepared to leave the five of us gathered around to discuss where we'd meet.
"Not my house," said Bakugo without elaborating.
"We can do it at my house!" exclaimed Izuku. "Except that my mom works all day and she might be extremely tired when she gets home and the noise would make it difficult for her to sleep. So it actually might be a bad idea--"
"Relax, Izuku we will go somewhere else. Mine is actually being fumigated this weekend so I'm not even staying at home," said Kirishima.
"Mines not available," said Shoto.
"So that just leaves Suhan and Bakugo."
"I ALREADY SAID NO!"
"Bakubro I doubt you have a serious reason for that," said Kiri. I clenched my hands under the table. I've never had anyone over ever.
"I DON'T WANT YOU PEOPLE IN MY HOUSE! THAT'S SERIOUS ENOUGH FOR ME!"
"We can use my house," I say in a final tone. Izuku must have seen the way I truly felt about it.
"Are you sure Suhan? I know you probably--"
"It's fine."
"That settles it then. Tonight at 6 work for everyone?" they all said yes and I gave them my number so that we could meet up and texted my address.
"See you guys later then," I said putting my headphones in. I had a lot to do to prepare for guests. Shit... what am I supposed to do now? They'll find out about my living situation for sure now. Please if anyone is out there help me.
Kiri: Ugh! This is not the part I wanted!
Suhan: That's the next chapter, Kiri!
Shoto: I can't believe I didn't know what a cakewalk was.
Suhan: Todo you took everything literally unless we told you what was figurative.
Shoto: Well how was I supposed to know it was literally a game where people walked around on paper to music and stopped on one sheet. And if their number was called they'd get a cake. That's pretty farfetched to me.
Bakugo: I don't understand why we couldn't have just gone to your house Deku!
Deku: My mom worked herself to death if we were there she wouldn't be able to sleep. Did you even listen to the story at all?
Suhan: Anyway, at the end of the day, going to my place for the project was the best thing that could have happened to me. Because what began there shaped my entire future.
Kiri: I'm so excited! This is my favorite part. Or is it the Deku? part. No, maybe the provisional license exam one or the one steamy night one part with the smut. (Bakugo, Deku, and Todoroki looked confused.) OOPS.
Suhan: Kiri!
Bakugo: What's the one steamy night part?
Suhan: It's nothing. It's nothing.
Kiri: I think I might have said too much.
Suhan: You think?
Bakugo: Hang on is that from when we--
Suhan: Anyway! Let's move on.
Bakugo: Our second year?
Suhan: We're not there yet.
Izuku: You guys did what our second year?
Shoto: But I thought we dated our second year.
Suhan: SHOTO! You just spoiled the surprise.
Shoto: Well at least I didn't tell them you married Deku.
Izuku: Shoto you just did.
Shoto: Oh... Oops.
Suhan: I hope you guys know you are my thirteenth reason. And in any case The Author's TikTok spoiled that surprise anyway. Get ready for the next chapter boys and girls. It's a doozy full of buried trauma and secret pacts. So it might be twice as long! Who knows.
