"Whoa, whoa, whoa... too much information at once.", Chase exclaimed.
Chance re-explained everything and by the end of it, Chase had a pretty solid idea on what had happened after he had returned to his dorm room and passed out from pain and exhaustion. One thing he still didn't understand, though, was the whole what's-Vince-doing-here situation.
His grandma then decided to go get Chase some food to eat, and Chance went to help her. His grandpa left to go to the bathroom for a minute, and Chase took that chance to ask Vince the question that was on his mind.
"Why're you here?", Chase asked.
Vince replied right away, "Because you passed out on me and I was worried?".
"Chance could have called you or texted you or something when I woke up. You didn't need to stay here.", Chase responded.
"I told my parents that I would be home Sunday evening. Yes, it's Sunday, but it's not evening. They'd be worried if I got home sooner than I told them I would.", Vince explained, but Chase didn't buy it.
"So you're here because you didn't want to worry your parents?", Chase asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No...", Vince trailed off, not sure what else to say. He didn't exactly want to confess in this setting.
"Oh, just leave the poor boy alone, Chase. He's worried about you, darnit, and doesn't want to leave you until he knows that you'll be okay!", Grandpa Walker said as he entered the living room again.
Grandma Cherry entered the room then, with Chance behind her. They both had two plates of food in their hands. Chance gave his two to Chase and Vince, while Chase's grandma gave one to her husband and kept on for herself. Chance then quickly ran to the kitchen and got food for himself. Then, they all settled on the couches.
As they ate their breakfast, they made small talk, his grandparents wanting to get to know Vince a little. Chance was very quiet, only speaking when he was addressed and Chase just felt so out of place in only a pair of shorts and bandages hiding most of his skin.
"So, Vince, where are you going to university?", Chase's grandpa asked.
Chase suddenly was paying very close attention because, like his grandparents, he didn't know where Vince was going to university. Vince had been keeping the location and the university under wraps for months now, not telling anyone at all.
"Diamond Ring University.", Vince replied without missing a beat.
"Wait, actually?", Chance asked. "Chase is also going to Diamond Ring City — Kensingburg, though, not DRU.".
Chase was in shock that Vince would be in the same city as him after high school ended. Chase had assumed that Vince wouldn't be going to Kensingburg because he knew that his co-captain didn't want a career in athletics. However, he didn't realize that him not going to Kensingburg didn't equal them not being in the same city.
Wait, why do I want to be in the same city as him?
"I know. We'll be together for another four years, then.", Vince teased, grinning at Chase.
"Thank goodness we won't be on the same team, though.", Chase shot back. "I wouldn't be able to handle another four years of you on the same team as me.".
"Aww... come on, Chase... you don't hate me that much, do you?", Vince pouted, but Chase could tell from his eyes that he wasn't actually hurt.
Him and Vince were so competitive that it was really hard to be on the same team, on the same side of the field. That's why it was actually good that Chase and Vince wouldn't be on the same team ever after high school.
