Part 3

Vince's eyes were wide — wider than they had ever been before. He'd been shocked by stuff many times in his life, but none of those shocks even compared to the shock he felt now, staring at Chase.

Chase, who had just turned into an animal.

Well, it wasn't like any other animal that Vince had seen before. It was a combination of two animals.

The head, wings, and front talons of an eagle.

The body, tail, and hind legs of a lion.

The realization came to Vince as he finally found out Chase's secret. Chase was a griffin. A supernatural creature.

When Vince looked into Chase's beautiful golden eyes, all he saw was rage. Pure, utter, raw rage. Griffin-Chase was furious.

The glass had settled around them, and the window in Chase's dorm room was bare of any covering. Chase's wings started flapping, making some small objects around the room float, but Chase paid them no attention. After he had enough momentum to get him off the ground, he flew out the window.

Chase, a griffin, flew out the window.

They were still on the high school's campus. Anyone outside could look up and see a griffin. A supernatural creature that only exists in fiction and fantasy.

Vince raced out of the dorm room, down the hallway, and down the stairs. Nash and Bryant were still at the bottom of the stairs. They turned around, seeing Vince behind them.

"Oh, hey, Vince.", Nash awkwardly greeted him.

"Nash. Bryant.", Vince returned the greeting with a nod. He still didn't know exactly how to handle this situation — not that he knew how to handle the Chase-being-a-griffin situation, either. "Umm... could you do me and Chase a favour?".

Bryant and Nash looked at each other before Bryant spoke, "What is it?".

Vince took in a breath, "Promise me that you won't tell anyone what you saw this morning.".

"You want to keep your relationship a secret?", Nash asked.

"We don't have a relationship to keep a secret... which is why this morning needs to be kept under wraps.", Vince internally winced at the first part of that sentence. He wished him and Chase had more of a relationship than just teammates or maybe friends.

"So... it was like a one-night-stand, then?", Bryant questioned.

"Dude! No!", Vince gasped. "Chase wasn't in class or at practice yesterday, so I asked Coach where he was. He told me that Chase wasn't feeling well and decided to stay in his dorm for the day. I went to Chase's dorm room to see if he needed anything. He had a fever. He passed out on me, so I put him in his bed.".

Nash gasped this time. "Did you take advantage of him, then?!".

Vince glared, "NO!!! I would never do that!".

"Then, what happened?", Bryant asked.

"I put Chase in his bed and sat on his chair. I was planning on sleeping there for the night.", Vince explained. "But, around midnight, Chase woke up. He felt better then, and asked why I was there.". Vince didn't tell Nash and Bryant about the rest of their conversation from the night, only that he and Chase had agreed to sleep on the bed together because the chair wouldn't be comfortable.

"Then... why did we see you guys cuddling this morning?", Nash asked, cocking his head to the side a little.

Vince blushed. "I wish I knew.".
