"We will not condone any kind of act that impedes this democratic process," square spoke. "Now, let us resume and continue voting."
Ali had already gone, so I was now standing alone. The vast majority was now on the other side of the room, and I waited with about 25 other people now.
"Player 055."
I looked up and walked to the voting panel. After convincing myself that yes, I was doing the right thing for my life, I pressed the green O button. Let the death continue.
...
We were down to player 001, the old man I saw earlier. It was a tie. Everyone in the room held their breath and crossed their fingers for him to choose whatever they chose.
Come on...
He very dramatically walked from close to the back to the voting machine, and it made me want to laugh. I think the anticipation was getting to me, but having 200 people including myself waiting on this old man to walk up to vote was just making me want to chuckle. He looked down at the two sides and considered carefully. It took him about 20 seconds to even move his hand.
"If you wish to continue playing, press O. However, if you wish to stop playing, then press X," Square repeated.
The old man still took his time. He looked up to the even 100-100 tie and pressed...
Half of the crowd let out a cheer and the other half sighed loudly. I was actually on the silent side. We were free.
"The majority of the players have voted to terminate the game," Square stated. "Therefore, this game is now terminated."
"Hey! Okay, anybody who wants to can go, but let's the ones who want stay till the end, though! Half of us have died already!" Someone demanded.
"If the majority of you wish to participate again, then we will resume the game. So, goodbye for now."
The gas filled the room.
...
I woke up without my clothes with them by my sides. Surprisingly, Ali was with me. We helped each other get untied and discussed what had just happened.
... (I'm sorry for all these time skips)
For the small amount of time that I was back in my old life, I missed the games more. Being away made me think that maybe I could win this if I really tried, really tried. But, another part of my thoughts was that maybe this was the very last time I'd be out in society. Outside, period.
The familiar van opened and I inhaled the fumes of the knock-out gas.
I awoke next to Ali. He smiled, seeing me awake, and returned. I didn't expect him to be back, but at least I wasn't alone in this game. I figured that we had come to the mutual conclusion that there was a better place to be. A place where you could earn a great life or lose your current one instead of suffering.
"Hello, Ms. Y/N. It's nice to see you back." He spoke.
"You too, but I didn't think you'd be back, Ali! However, I am really glad I have a friend here, though. We'll win this prize. Together." I optimistically stated. It earned me a smile from him.
Then, some pink guards came up and a square mask stepped forward. He mentioned how glad he was about the high return rate. He said that we would start a new game soon. Everyone seemed on edge. After all, now we knew some of us would die. That doesn't make people happy.
