"Lucifer is a liar," Maria said to her five year old daughter, Lily, after completing the daily dosage of Bible teachings. But even before she could close the Bible, the doors burst open and her husband stormed into the house, drunk. This was the same scenario everyday, he'd booze and booze, and drink off all their family money. They would've been starving then, if it wasn't for Maria's service to the church.
"See? That's how Lucifer traps you, through pleasure, your father's a living exampl-"
It was very sudden, a blink of an eye ago Maria was sitting there but then, her head was smashed against the wall, blood spraying everywhere, on the shovel, all over her husband and on little Lily's white face. There was another blow as the deafening screeches ringed through the room. But the blows from the shovel continued and Lily stood there watching her father quench the demon inside him, by murdering his wife.
Lily never quite understood what exactly happened, "God took her," is what everybody said to her. But the last time she saw, Maria was dragged into a room by her father, and God didn't come to collect her mother. But it didn't matter, she was told not to question God, but to blindly believe him. So she did exactly that, there wasn't much choice anyways.
Weeks crawled by, and her father would come home drunk, not feeding her or even minding her. One day though, he searched the whole house and ended up screaming like a maniac, which Lily thought he probably was. For a second, Lily was scared that her father heard her, because he threw her a very intense glance, and marched towards her. He lifted her up, threw her on his shoulders and carried her away. He walked his way through many streets, little Lily smiled all the way, thinking her father was giving her a ride like how her friends' do! Little did she know that she was going to be sold to an old politician, for money. Even though he tried to maintain an image to the people, he was indeed a disgusting monster, hiding behind his facade.
But Maria's services to the church saved her daughter, the nuns who were friends with her, asked for the child to be spared and donated to the church. The man knew that the church could take away politics from him if it wanted to, so he knew better than denying their request, which was more of a demand.
Over eleven years spent in the church, Lily had never seen anything beyond it, neither did she question anything about it. She grew up with the other kids who were given as offerings to God, that is, to become a part of the church. She was always told that she was blessed to be there, alive and healthy, and should remain grateful for being dealt with in such a merciful way.
Being a nun, she was taught that desire was the cause of sins, and was forbidden to let her thoughts run free, till she met him, Lucifer.
