War and aftermath

All Yudhishthira's efforts of peace mission failed. War started at Kurukshetra. Draupadi lost her father Drupada, brothers and sons. On 18th night, Ashwatthama finished even the last trace of Panchala blood. A heartbroken Draupadi demanded Ashwatthama's gem. At the cost of unborn Parikshit and all PandavaPatnis' infertility, finally Pandavas got it for her. She made Yudhishthira wear the gem on his head.

Draupadi ruled Bharatavarsha as an Empress again, for 36 years. After Krishna's demise and Yadu clan's destruction, she followed Pandavas on the way of Mahaprasthana and died before her husbands, without a widowhood.

In other Mahabharatas (regional versions) and folklores:

The followings are some differences we find in other sources, which heavily contradict Vyasa's Mahabharata's plot and characterization.

1. The popular Jambul fruit story is found in Maharashtrian folk tale (Jambu akhyan) which was later adopted in many regional versions like Sarala Das's Oria Mahabharata and Kashiram Das's Bengali Mahabharata. According to this story, Pandavas and Draupadi are asked to share their secret desires and she reveals her love for Karna. This story has led to many fictional renditions later on.

2. In Bheel Bharatam, Draupadi gets raped by Vasuki in front of a helpless Arjuna and later gets rescued by Karna.

3. In Indonesian Mahabharata, Draupadi is married to Yudhishthira alone and childless.
