you pointed at the sunset

told a story about a boy who flew way too close to the sun

the sun is your biggest downfall, his father warned

you'd melt the wax

your wings will collapse

you will

fall

and he fell

fell

fell

for the sun

he loved

the flight above

how high he was

how reckless flying must be

i smiled

muttering how dumb he was

for flying too high

for being ignorant

for defying limitations

for falling

i chuckled as you stared back at me with annoyance

he was too dumb to fall for the sun

poseidon would carry his fallen wings into the shore

and no one would remember him

i pointed the sun this time

should i blame the enticing sun for its glow?

should i blame the sun for burning?

the way it has always been?

blame icarus

blame the moth

blame me

guess we have all been dumb for the sun

you were that sun

you will always be

the downfall.
