chapter 15 • i didn't know you spoke with the country folk

"i signed up, too." bella remembered.

"it worked, it worked! she said yes!" dj said, running back.

"okay, okay, but remember the rule. wait before you celebrate." troy reminded.

i stood next to the locker.

"sawyer, i was so touched by your pepperoni gift that i got something for you to put in your locker." pepper said, handing him a framed picture for his locker.

"pepper, this is really cool, and kinda makes me wanna ask you something i've been thinking about. come here." sawyer said.

pepper came back, cheering.

"i'm a girlfriend!" she said.

i smiled.

i could only feel happy for her.

"aw, i'm so proud." i said, returning her hug.

after school, we went to pepper's house.

"so, what do your parents think about you having a boyfriend?" sophie asked.

"uhm, i actually haven't talked to them about it yet." pepper revealed. "but i'm sure they'll be fine."

"i don't know. parents get funny about this type of thing." sophie shrugged. "we need to figure this out without them knowing."

"who wants lemonade?" pepper's parents walked in.

"and here's our chance. hey, um, can we get some advice?" sophie asked.

"sure." sophie's dad asks.

"uhm, so, there is a girl on our cheer squad." sophie said.

"yeah, she's our age. same age as us." pepper said.

"and, uhm, she needs to get a present for her boyfriend." sophie said.

"he's also our age! same age as us." pepper said.

"what do you think she should get him?" sophie asked.

"she shouldn't get him anything, because she shouldn't have a boyfriend." peppers dad said.

ew, gross.

"yeah, i'm gonna go home." i said, grabbing my purse. "thanks for having me."

i stood next to the lockers with pepper, blowing a bubble gum bubble.

"ladies, i am so happy about the union of pepper and sawyer, i coined a new nickname for them." newt said.

"team pawyer." newt said.
