When Saturday came I was antsy, I was excited about the date but I didn't want to mess it up. I really just hoped he liked me!

I started getting ready around 6. I did my hair, my makeup, and then I got dressed, given that it was now January, I wanted something semi warm, the jacket helped.

I walked out of my dorm and into the common room, heading towards the door. I felt confident in the way I currently looked, at least I did until James and Sirius started snickering.

"What now? You two can't just give me ONE day where you don't have some sort of opinion on what I wear?" I asked, looking in their direction

"It's just a lot with the patterns Y/N. Where are you going anyway? It's Saturday." Sirius has always been nosy.

"If you must know, I'm going on a date! Now leave me alone!"

As soon as I said the word 'date' James was out of his seat and walking towards me, wrapping his arm around my shoulders when he reached me.

"A date? Who are we scaring? I'm supposed to be some sort of protective brother at this point right?" James asked

"You're not scaring anyone if you know what's good for you! Why would you start being protective now James? You've never cared before! If anything you're the reason my heart's been broken repeatedly over the years!" I answered

I pushed his arm away from me, continuing to make my way out of the common room. James and Sirius looked like I'd just dumped ice water over them, but Lily was in the corner smirking into her book at the fact I was finally standing up for myself.

"What the hell does that mean?" James asked, following me

"Are you serious?" I replied

"No, he's Sirius" he pointed at his friend

I rolled my eyes at his stupid joke and pushed the door open.

"I can never wear anything that's good enough, everything has 'too much color' or is 'too eccentric', I'm 'embarrassing'. Let's see, what else.... Oh yeah, daring your friend to ask me to the ball last week just so he could ditch me! I really hope you paid him whatever it is you owed him!"

I was now walking down the stairs towards the Entrance Hall, while James stood at the top of the stairs looking down at me in shock.

"I've never been good enough to be the sister of the 'amazing' James Potter, and I'm done trying to be. I want to be happy, if that means I embarrass you constantly then so be it James! I've lived my entire life trying to please YOU and I've been miserable! You may be able to fool mum and dad, but I know how much of an asshole you really are! All I've ever wanted was for you to love me and treat me as more than just the butt of your stupid jokes, apparently that'll never happen." I continued

At this point all of his friends had come out, along with Lily, and all of them looked shocked. I'd stopped at the bottom of the staircase and was looking up at them.
