Idalia Gaudium pulled her hood over her hair to hide her face- if anyone saw her, we brilliantly constructed plan would fall to hell. The fate of the world was on her shoulders. Or rather in her daughter Calida's stomach.
She grabbed her daughter's wrist, "Come, Calida. We must be quick. If we, if you are seen by a dres' myer..."
"I know mama." she replied softly, "It's going to be okay. Your plan is going to work."
"It must. We'd best be off, grab your cloak."
As Calida went to grab her cloak, Idalia thought to herself, if this child of my daughter's, as well as Alina and Khloe's children, don't succeed in carrying out her plan, the world will turn into even more of a monstrous place to live. And it will all be her fault.
She fastened the button of her cloak and tired her boot laces.
"Ready." Calida said confidently as she came back striding into the room confidently.
"Good, now remember what to do if we get caught?"
"Yes, mama. I'll use my mind manipulation to make the guards let us pass."
"Yes, and if that fails?"
"You'll kick their asses."
"Very good." Idalia said with a smirk. Little Cal was not so little anymore. Of course she wasn't, after all, she was with child. A child to hopefully save the world from a certain doom. No pressure.
Idalia nodded and with that they were out the little cottage door and onto the rainy cobble stone streets.
The two women hustled down the long streets with their hoods pulled up high and their heads down. They took a left at a wooden gate. They ducked under the wood slab fence into a lush, green, mudded yard with a small stone home a few yards ahead. They practically jogged to the front door and knocked.
A young woman with dark hair and freckles answered the door moments later.
"Quickly, come inside. Where you followed?"
"I don't think so." Idalia said with a quick glance back at the streets. She took of her cloak and stepped inside, her daughter following.
"How are you Khloe? How's baby Alora?"
"I'm well, as well as one can be during times like these. Alora is perfect. She never stops smiling. I hope she never stops too." She said with a chuckle.
Khloe led them to a dark living room, the only light source being the small dying fire in the fire place.
Sitting in the dark brown couch was Clementine Vulgate, holding Alora, Marcus Bernhardus, Marcus's daughter Alina, and Marcus's son Zamen.
Clementine got up to give Idalia and Calida a warm embrace, "I'm so glad to see you two safe."
"You too Clem." Idalia responded.
Zamen got up to bring a leather bound notebook to Idalia, who took is from him with care.
The room watched her as she flipped through the pages of the book. The book was full of journal entries that Idalia has written, in latin, about various things regarding the amulets and her plan.
"So," she spoke, trying to keep a quiver out of her voice. She cleared her throat. She spoke one sentence that breathed hope into the airy room, "I think I know how to save our homes."
This room might look like a group of rag tag rebels. But it was more than that. This room at three of the four empire founders within its walls.
Clementine, Marcus, Khloe, Alina, and Zamen perked up. Even Zamen at eleven years old knew how important this was.
Idalia continued, "It's risky. But I like our chances. I think- no, I know that it will work.
"The first step is to hide our amulets around the Empires in places our grandchildren can find with the help of my journal."
"Idalia, with all due respect, do you think that's wise? What if the amulets fall into the wrong hands?" Marcus asked, concern in his voice.
"I know. I have a spell I can cast on the amulets so they only work with the specific child's touch or presence."
Marcus and Clementine considered this and glanced at each other.
Idalia proceded, "The second step would be to send Alora, and the other children once their born, to different parts of the Empires and leave it to fate to bring them together to find and unite the amulets."
The room was silent, Idalia bit her lip and waited for a response.
It was Alina who spoke first, "Are you mad? Send away are children? I have no doubt that fate will bring them together but at what cost?"
"Now let's not be harsh. I think Idalia might be on to something." Clementine said, "It would be difficult to send them away but I think it might work."
An hour after arguing and contemplating, everyone agreed to this sliver of a hope plan. After Hayden (daughter of Calida) and Cassian (son of Alina) were born, Alora and Hayden were to be sent to Essie to grown up, while Cassian would be sent to Meridium.
