POV: Mason
I'm backstage in the auditorium preparing myself for my audition. Right now a bigger guy with comically large headphones is finishing up his audition of 'Mustang Sally'. I watch three girls dancing behind them and become giddy with the thought that I could be a new direction. I've loved singing since I was little, in fact they used to sing to me as a baby to get me to stop crying, which is inconvenient since singing would just make my sister Madison cry harder when she was a baby. She was born 5 minutes prior to me so she basically raised me. Everything I did she did alongside me, well this, I'm going at alone. "Mason McCarthy?" I hear a lady with a high pitched voice say, welcoming me to the stage. "Hello my name is Mason McCarthy and I'll be singing 'I'll be'by Edwin McCain." I put a smiley emphasis on the first coinsidential song title, Earning a smile and head turn from Broadway's very own Rachel Berry. I get caught up and almost miss my cue, when did the song even start? It's time to become a new direction.

'The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath'

I start to sing with the lights shining on me, it feels so natural

'Emeralds from mountains thrust towards the sky
Never revealing their depth'

I glance behind me to see the same three girls dancing behind me, slower and with more feeling this time.

'Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above

I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

Rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed
You're my survival, you're my living proof
My love is alive and not dead

Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above

I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life'

I look to the side of me to see a girl in a cheerios uniform, my sister. Madison is standing there, watching me, her hands to her chest, watching me with what seems like despair in her eyes which powers me through the end of the song.

'I've dropped out, burned up, fought my way back from the dead
Tuned in, turned on, remembered the things you said

I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life'

I breath heavily and try to catch my breath as Rachel shouts over all of the other alumni new directions, "You're in!" I give a breathless 'thank you'and run to my sister. I smile at her and she just gives me a dissaproving look and passes me, heading for, . . . the stage.
