Maybe you'd go out? Join the others and stroll around town? You'd need a jacket, of course, it was starting to look a little cloudy when you glanced out the windows of the cockpit.
Walking past the refresher, you popped your head into the sterile room. Why? You had no clue, knock it down to boredom. Standing in front of the mirror, you prodded your face, poked out your tongue and tried to tamper your untamed hair "Did it always look like this?" you groaned. You kept pushing your palm against the curled edges sticking from the top of your head, though it didn't work, trying repeatedly didn't stop you.
While doing such a mindless task, a blaring noise came from somewhere around the ship. You could hear distant swears, curses in mando - a language you didn't know but recognised all the same - no doubt from Tech. Deciding to not go bother him at seemingly such a delicate time, you explored the ship further with a new interest in mind: finding that noise.
Trailing the sound by luck, you ended up in the bunks. It was still a mess from earlier, an early morning start that would leave anyone grumpy and in a bad mood. Wrecker's blankets were strewn across the floor and his pillows slowly tipping off the edges of the bed. While Hunter's was a little better there were still bandanas seeping out of the crate beside his bed and one of his many blades protruding from a pillow.
Echo's bed was similar to yours, that meaning they were clean. Finally, there was Tech's bed. Random cables, assorted nuts and bolts, stray memory boards; it was a mess, an organised chaos.
Approaching the scene further, you noted a small blinking light coming from some contraption he had cobbled together overnight. The sound had magically grown quieter as you approached it, either that or you had finally gone deaf. Picking up the device - no bigger than your thumb - you smiled wickedly and marched to the cockpit.
Tech was still cursing when you arrived, he was no longer laying under the console but sitting on his ass scratching his head in thought. His attention flickered around him, scanning every item remotely close to him, "I just don't understand-" you heard him mutter to himself.
"What don't you understand?" you asked allowed, startling the poor man. He must have been thinking hard if he didn't hear you come in, unlike earlier. Tech seemed to falter for a moment, his eyes travelled your face before following the seams of your shirt to your elbow, then up to the device locked between your fingers in a pinch.
"What are you doing with that?" it was more of a demand than a question, his brows furrowed as well as they could with the goggles restricting their movements. You shrugged your shoulders, throwing the device over to him, "I heard it beeping from the refresher, the closer I got the quieter it became." you paused, "What is it?" you asked, tilting your head.
"Nothing of any importance, no, it's just a smaller scaled security device. Innovated with the same procedures as the Havock but more compact and portable."
"That's- that's actually really cool, Tech."
"Well, it would have been if it didn't just randomly go off, but at least I know it works...to some extent."
You leant against the pilots' chair, arms folded over in a shrug, "I have a question," you announced, eyes shut to hide from the embarrassment. You could hear Tech shuffle around, "Go for it," he mused, a small screwdriver in his hand as he tweaked his project.
"Why does it get quiet the moment you get closer to it? Pretty faulty alarm system if you ask me."
Tech hummed in agreement, staring intently as the red light continued to blink in and out of existence, "I designed it to recognise us, whenever one of us would approach it - be it a false alarm or other - it would essentially turn off. However, if it was an unwanted guest, the sound would get progressively louder."
"Oooh, smart." you moaned out, smiling at the small device grasped in his gloved hand.
"Well, I do have an exceptional mind." he bragged, pushing his goggles further up his nose with the tip of his index finger. And there was that ego you talked about before, any time you complimented his work or called him smart, he'd brag and boast like it was nobodies business.
"The other's should be back soon," you yawned out, stretching your arms above your head. The wrinkled fabric of your shirt sprouting out from your trousers with the motion. Tech nodded, surveying the workload he still had to complete, silently cursing getting so distracted over such a small object. Thank god you were just there to help him, otherwise, who knows how long he would've spent looking for that thing.
"W-would you care to stick around?"
"Me?"
"Yes, it seems I won't be able to get the repairs done in time for the others getting back to the Havock by myself. But, if I had an extra pair of hands, there's a 75% chance of getting them done effectively."
"So, you're saying you want my help?"
"Well, you did leave me hanging last time, as Wrecker once said."
You blinked at Tech, stunned he'd remember such a small detail from a conversation he wasn't even a part of, just stood in the background. A blush soon started to cover your cheeks, palm slapping your forehead, "I totally did leave you hanging, how can I make it up to you?"
"By helping me, that would be a good start." he beamed, obviously pulling at your leg.
"Right, that was a pretty stupid question, huh?" you laughed nervously, fingers caught in the tangles of your hair, cheeks going red. Tech shook his head, "Nonsense, now sit beside me and I'll quickly show you the basics."
