The hugs and kisses I'm being pulled in for right now are so fake. My mom is caressing my hair and telling me she loves me as she thinks about getting into the car to leave me.

"It's only for these last weeks of summer...I don't understand the fuss! Your father lives in a beautiful home. Plus, I think this would be a great opportunity for you to make friends." She says giving me a half smile.

Friends? Is that what this is about. I didn't know you had to ship off your children in order for them to make friends. I have plenty...She doesn't know what she's talking about.

"I want to go home." I pouted.

"Nora please don't give me that look. Home can be in two places hun. You should get settled in!" She said with excitement.

The problem with being the result of young pregnancy is you're growing up together. Mentally my mom is still a 19 year old. I can't think of any other reason why she would make me stay here than to go live life where she doesn't have to come home to someone. But I won't depress over this.

It's just a summer I repeated in my head.

My dad was standing in the doorframe waiting for me. He gave me a very teethy smile. He welcomed me opened arms and the smells of mens cheap cologne.

"Hey kiddo, it's been a while hasn't it? I've missed you so much." He said with sincerity.

He hugged me softly. He hugged me as if he knew if he squeezed too tight he'd hurt me.

"Hey Dad." I said with a smile to please him.

My dad and I have a relationship. But not the type of relationship where I can ask him for help on my homework or ask him to zip up my dress. It's been years since I've seen my dad. I'm 16 now. A women. I wonder if he views me as his little girl still. My dad is cool in all, it's just there's not much there. I'd rather be with my mom.

My mom got into her nail polish red convertible and blew kisses through the window. She gave me a reassuring nod that said "everything is going to be ok." She turned on the car and drove off. All that was left was the smell of the evergreen trees and gasoline.

My dad grabbed my suitcase and closed the door.

-

I'm tracing my fingers on the 3 year old drawings my dad called "talent". I can't do much but laugh at the eraser marks and grease stains.

My dad left my room untouched from the last time I was over here.

I'm glad to see my cat Scar's favorite place is still my bedroom. Scar purr's while I pet him. I like to think his purring is him laughing at my stupid drawings.

I hear a knock on my door.

"Come in." I said.

"Hey Nora, I'm glad Scar has greeted you. He's missed you. I came up here to get my last looks of your bedroom before you probably decide to redecorate it." He laughs.

"W-which is totally fine with me by the way!" He adds.

"That's great because I'm not really digging the lavender purple walls, and posters of overrated white boys who can sing." I laughed.

My dad came over to me and messed with my big brown curls. And smiled.

"I hated those posters." He said sarcastically.

Maybe this "vacation" won't be so bad.

"What are we having for dinner?" I said.

"Well it's Friday...Which means I'm not cooking. So how bout pizza?" He said.

"Sounds good." I smiled.

-

We're eating pizza quietly . I hope he doesn't mind me being muted. I love it, I find not talking peaceful.

He clears his throat to start some conversation.

"So...In a couple of weeks I'm going to contact the school so I can you enroll you. Do you want me to drive you to school or do you not mind the bus?" He said.

"I'm sorry what?" I said in disbelief.

"Do you want to walk to school?" He raised his brow.

"I'm only supposed to be here for 3 weeks. What are you talking about?" I said in heavy breaths.

"What? Did your mom not tell you? Nora, you're living with me until your mom gets her shit together." He said.

"Sorry. Didn't mean to say shit. Shit. I'm still catching onto this fathering stuff." He said while running his hands through his hair.

Yeah that's a perfect word.

Shit.
