What they're talking about is absolutely pointless. Jeongguk doesn't even know why he's here.
Probably not so nice way to distract himself from the kiss.
"Why are you here, Jeongguk?" She asks again, this time with a hint that she knows something's wrong. Something that's obvious and it feels to him that she sees right through him.
"Taehyung." Jeongguk says. He says his name so gentle that it surprises him as well.
"The pretty boy." She says and Jeongguk was about to say 'yes' but stops himself.
"He betrayed us. He was with Hyunjae all the time. But then he---he wasn't with him either." Jeongguk tells her.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Then Jeongguk tells her. He tells his mother everything, talks the most he has with her tonight than in the past years.
She listens, she always listens and the way her face stays so calm and collected makes Jeongguk nervous. He envies her for that. How he can't stay this calm while talking about him.
"Do you think he is the reason your father died. Do you think he knew?" Out of all things, this is what she asks.
"What if I ask you that after all I've told you, you think of him as the reason of it?" Jeongguk asks.
"I'll trust only what you believe, Jeongguk." Her words make him close his eyes momentarily, a sigh escaping his lips.
"No." He says.
"No?" She asks.
"No. I think he didn't know Hyunjae was going to kill dad." Jeongguk says.
"You think or are you sure if it's not just because you love him?" Ever the complicated questions she asks.
Jeongguk didn't even tell her he loves Taehyung.
"I'm sure he didn't know." Jeongguk says.
"Did you know there would be people inside the club even after you gave them time to run?" His mother asks.
Jeongguk feels an ache in his heart everytime he hears about that.
"I was sure everyone would leave. I knew it would be empty because the time of detonation I had set was enough for the escape, mom."
"It just occurred before its time and that's why his sister died. I know she would've made it if the detonation was on time." Jeongguk says.
"Fucking trust me! She would've made it out." Jeongguk says it so desperately.
"I trust you, Jeongguk. I trust you." She says so gently. Jeongguk hears her gentle footsteps but no contact comes. She stops a little far from him.
"This wasn't part of the plan. There shouldn't be a flaw in what I've been taught. I wasn't supposed to get caught in this mess. Your husband taught me better than this." He says.
"What your father taught you or didn't, nothing could've stopped you from falling in love. That just happens." She says.
"I was talking about me being stupid enough to get betrayed." Jeongguk says.
"Oh were you?"
"Yes." He lies.
"I don't want to think about him. But it's impossible because all I think about is him all the day." Jeongguk whispers. It's getting difficult to not open up to his mother.
"I even have his nephew in my house because I know he'll be safe there. I shouldn't be caring about them at all." He says desperately.
"I shouldn't have fucking went to him without any reason. Just---just to see him and tell him stupid excuses about it."
