I walked slowly and unlocked the door. Nobody was home, perfect, I thought. I knew where she'd hid the key so it wasn't going to take that long. I walked towards the drawer and opened it slowly as to not make a noise. Maybe someone was home and I just didn't know, I thought. I looked for the key but it wasn't there. Did she take it with her? I mean, why would she? I froze when I heard footsteps behind me.

Damn it.

Caught.

"Is this what you're looking for?" Spencer said.

My head shot up. I'd expected it to be Melissa or Spencer's mom, Veronica, not Spencer. She knows, I thought. That was it, I couldn't lie. I couldn't escape and pretend that it wasn't me. She'd known for awhile and she'd been waiting for a moment like this. She didn't want to believe it, neither did I.

I turned around slowly and saw her in tears—angry. She threw the keys across the room and they hit the floor with a loud thump. I walked towards her slowly and showed no signs of guilt. I couldn't go back now. I had to confess. She wouldn't know the truth but it would be something. Maybe someday, she'll understand. She'll know why I did what I did.

"Spencer…" I said, but it sounded more like a whisper to me.

She slapped me hard but I had to shake it off and pretend it was alright. I looked deeply in her eyes and could see hurt in them—but I couldn't back out now.

"How long have you known?" I asked as she continued to stare at me, forcing herself not to cry.

She handed me my Radley Sanitarium I.D and I knew that she'd found it at my apartment earlier. I should've been more careful.

"Spencer?" I heard her mom call out from a distance.

I had to leave. Her mom can't know. She turned around slowly and I took it as my chance to leave. I ran to the door and went outside but I didn't leave… I looked through the window and tried to make out what they were saying. Spencer's mom hugged her as Spencer began to cry. If only I could tell her the truth… I slowly headed back to my car and drove off. I couldn't go back to my apartment and I couldn't go back to Rosewood High tomorrow. I had to disappear… for a while.
