Demilade couldn't deny the pride he felt from hearing those words about his mother. It was the first time someone was complimenting his mother so sincerely in his presence. And he was grateful for it.
"What can I say?" He laughed shortly. "Thanks for the compliment, Mr. Williams. It's an honor." He replied gratefully.
"It is nothing. It's so nice to meet you again. Most especially knowing that you're this sweet woman son." Demilade looked at his mother who was smiling from ear to ear. "I know we have things to discuss as a men to man but that would be another time. Your mother had been expecting your visit and I also have somewhere to be now. So maybe another time, we could meet and have a chat."
"That would be nice. I'll be expecting a call from you, Mr. Williams." Demilade said in support.
The man smiled gratefully.
"Thanks. I will leave you to have your time with your mom." He said while Demilade nodded. He turned to his mother. "I'll call you." He patted her shoulder lightly, glanced at Demilade one last time, and turned back to the woman.
She smiled reassuringly at him and walked him to his car. After they have watched him drive out of the compound, both mother and son walked into the house.
Mrs. Jolaoluwa went to the kitchen to continue where she had left before she decided to walk Nelson out. She was glad that he was understanding and he had let went to the kitchen to start preparing something for her son.
Demilade dropped his phone and wallet on the center table in the living room and went to his old room.
He unlocked the door to the room and stepped inside. It still smells like home and him. Only a few things have been changed in the room. It's been a while since he stepped into the room. He rarely come back to the room after he left. But everything still seems okay. The old small shelf was still there, his bed, the old books, and handouts he bought at the university, and his wardrobe.
He went over to the wardrobe. He opened it and all the clothes he had left were still inside - neat and arranged and it made a smile spread on his face. His mother hadn't touched anything. She had left everything the way it was like he was still going to come back there. And she ensured the room is clean. He admitted it was sweet of her.
His eyes caught a black polo from the few clothes hung in the wardrobe and he stretched his hand forward to remove it from the collection of clothes. He chuckled lightly on seeing the words imprinted on the black polo - Black Is Beautiful.
The cloth was actually his favorite polo when he was in the university. His mother had given it to him when she finally accepted that his favorite color is black. At first, she always assumes it is evil, uncommon, and strange to like black color and she won't fail to reprimand him when he was wearing black. But he didn't stop wearing it. Instead, he keep getting a collection of black shirts, jeans, and trousers until she finally accepted them. And she surprised him by buying a black polo - something that she had never done - as a gift. He can still remember the surprised look on his face when she gave him the gift. He doesn't think he could ever forget that day.
He took the shirt and stared at it. He removed the hanger and returned it to its position in the wardrobe and he took the cloth deciding to keep it with him permanently.
"Mom, I didn't know you still have this cloth," Demilade said as he stepped into the kitchen where his mother was cooking. She looked up at him and she smiled when she saw the cloth in his hand.
"Why would I throw it away? It's for a purpose like this that I didn't touch any of your clothes." She said.
He went to take a stool and he sat on it.
