He nodded vehemently. "I would. I won't let you down. I promise. I would. Thank you. Thank you so much. God bless you. God bless you. Thank you." He appreciated it with his hands glued together.
Demilade just nodded and patted his shoulder.
He understood what it was to be in their shoe. He probably would have gone farther in life if he had someone to help him. But he guessed everyone's story is different. His fate was different. And different from his, he has someone who sees the talent in him and who can help him. And he did what he wished to do. Moreover, it doesn't take anything from him to render such help.
He patted Daniel's shoulder again.
"Stop crying. It's a reward for me. Just consider yourself one of the few under my scholarship. Okay?" He said. "Common, stand up and stop crying." The boy nodded, wiped away the tears from his face and he stood up from the floor where he had knelt. Demilade nodded with satisfaction.
"Thank you once again." He said appreciatively and with sincerity. Demilade waved it off.
He turned to Lola. "Won't you stop crying?" Demilade said to his girlfriend with a teasing smile on his face. She had been staring at him with her tears-filled face. "I told you it is fine."
She leaned closer to him and she curled her hands around his nape then kiss him on the lips not caring if her brother was watching. He didn't bother pulling away either. He let her do what she wanted and he kissed her back.
"I love you." She whispered to him when she pulled away. He smiled and he used the back of his palm to wipe away her tears.
"I love you more." He said placing light kisses on her cheeks.
Someone giggled beside them. And they both turned to see the twins giggling quietly beside each other. They were staring at them. Demilade chuckled while Daniel laughed. Lola just rolled her eyes.
"Hey, if I see you try anything silly, you're going to be in hot soup. You hear me?" She threatened the girls.
The smile on their faces disappeared at their sister's threat and they nodded before they chorused.
"Yes, ma."
"Better." And Lola breathed in relief. She noticed Demilade staring at her with the usual glint in his eyes and a small smile that was barely obvious on his lips.
She smiled at him and she wiped her face properly.
"Sis, were you crying?!" Boluwatito asked with concern.
"Why were you crying?" Boluwatife asked.
"I am happy. It was a happy tear okay." The girls looked at her confused, their brows furrowed. She smiled at them. "Don't worry you will understand better when you get older. Just thank Uncle Demmy on behalf of your big brother."
They turned to Daniel. They gave him a scrutinizing look.
"What for?" They chorused looking at him. He smiled at them.
"You will know soon. But for now, listen to Big Sis and thank Uncle Demmy." He said to them. "You should do that for me."
The two girls looked at each other and together they went to embrace Demilade who was cut by surprise by their action. He chuckled before hugging them back, stroking their hair.
Lola smiled as the twins pulled away and said thank you very much in unison to Demilade. He nodded grinning at them.
"Who is ready to go out?" Lola asked.
And the two girls squealed, jumping up.
"Sister Lola, where are we going?"
"Anywhere Daniel wants to go. We are celebrating Daniel's birthday because today is his day." She said looking at her brother proudly.
