Chapter 19: Partial Truth: Part 1

Start from the beginning

Pushing aside the news that I was going to have to take over a Tribe and a Unity that I'm not even sure exists anymore, I was quite intrigued by the women leading things. It was an anomaly in our world for a female Alpha to lead a pack until their heir took over, but it was always a sight to behold when they did.

My heart swelled with pride as I thought of all the women who came before my grandfather. All of the strong and capable women who led my mom's old pack with strength, compassion, and rectitude from its birth to now... Well, you know what I mean.

I felt proud beyond words. However, that pride slowly parted like the Red Sea, allowing my crippling anxiety to crowd my mind as I realized that I would have to be the next woman to fulfill that role. How was I going to be able to fill such grand shoes? Hell, how was I going to be able to do anything if I didn't even know what happened to my mother's old pack?!

This is too much! I mentally groaned.

Once again, I was pulled out of my raging thoughts as Grandpa Ty continued to explain his and Mom's pasts and the Unity.

"I'm going to assume that you understand what I just said and move on because we're running out of time." He said and took a deep breath, before proceeding.

"Okay, as I said earlier... Your mother was said to be taking over the Unity. I forgot to mention that your mother's Enchantress friend, Crystal, was the one who had a vision of Daffodil standing before the Unity as they bowed to her as the Empress. So, not only did her friends decide to make her the leader, but it was also prophesized.

"Dilly and her friends kept it hidden from Nova for a while because of how she was grieving Leela's death, and because she had so much on her plate already—being pregnant and all—and her and her twin sister, Jasmine, and their shared mate, Eric, had just taken over the Vampire Tribe. But eventually, they had to tell her...

"I'm sure you can expect that Nova wasn't too keen about Daffodil being chosen by fate to take over. So, she became envious and angry toward your mother and the rest of her friends, even her sister and Eric... So because of this, Nova left with the baby in her womb, vowing that she'd come back and take over the Unity no matter what, and no one was going to get in her way or stop her."

"She left with the baby in her womb?" I asked in disbelief.

"In her womb." He nodded.

"So... Is that when you were taken? When Nova left?" I asked.

Grandpa shook his head. "No. I wasn't taken until months later. Someway, somehow, after I'd banished Drake from our lands for his crimes against our pack and our family, your mother and her friends angered Nova to the point of no return during the birth of her child, and a few weeks after that, she and Drake had taken me." He said, clenching his fists as he thought about the events of his past.

There it was... Why my mother never spoke about her twin. For the Alpha, let alone your own father, to banish you from his pack, you had to commit a serious crime.

I wonder what Drake did to the pack and his family to earn such a harsh punishment.

"Nova took me with the intent to kill me and absorb my powers to have enough strength to take over Elemental Spirit. Her ability to absorb energy and powers from other beings would've proven great in a time of battle, but since she's using it for her own personal vendetta, everyone should be warned and weary." He swallowed before continuing. "Nova has the ability to absorb energy, abilities, and ranks and use them to turn her enemy's allies against them. But only if she gets the power of the leader... Nova believed that if she took me, killed me, and absorbed my rank and powers, then she could turn every tribal wolf against your mother and the rest of their friends."
