Den Day is coming up, so that means I have to prepare my resume. As a Scorpio, I went through water school and the emotional intelligence program. Water school is required for all water signs and lasts from ages 6 to 19. It goes over the basic fundamentals of what being a water sign entails. For example, we are artistic, loyal, passionate, and must of all emotional. Each one of these basic characteristics have classes that we heavily study in. For example, our classes on loyalty help water signs understand when and who to give their loyalty to. Plus, each water sign has classes that are specific to their sign. For example, only Scorpios have to take trust and jealously classes. The emotional intelligence program is like water school, but on steroids. Only high performing water students have the opportunity to have extra studies from this section of water school. Therefore, taking classes from the emotional intelligence program is extremely helpful to being a strong candidate on Den Day. All these classes really help water signs control their characteristics and learn how to be a God for Den Day. Den Day is whenever the Gods pick a student from their sign and teach them their ways. This sets forth a new set of Gods every generation to keep peace and fairness. Den Day only happens every 150 years, so that's what makes it so special. Every student right now is putting their blood, sweat, and tears into their training for this day. Applicants have to be 19, no younger and no older. You would think this limits the competition, but it is still fierce. My best friend, Rome, is a Libra and he went through Air school, and he went through the loyalty intelligence program, which is his equivalence of my emotional intelligence program. Rome is the smartest kid I know for our age, well besides myself. We both love to have a healthy competition between each other every now and then. We both know deep in our hearts that the other person is smarter. Since both of us have been out of school for almost a month now, we decided to get a job together. You know a practical way for young lads and ladies like us to spend our summer. Most of the time signs do not work together unless they are the Gods. However, there are very few jobs that allow the mixture of signs. We both got into the same job, the Sound. The Sound is a record label for different kinds of artists no matter their signs. Rome and I work as personal assistants to the number one signer, James Ellewood. The pay is good, and the workload is minimal, which allows Rome and I to have plenty of time to enjoy some of the summer. Speaking of work, we got an early day today and Rome and I decided to come back to his house to work on our resumes. "Laura, do you think, 'creator of the Air School chess club,' or, 'ex lord of all wise chess mates,' is better?" I look over at Rome's adorable inquisitive face and his few dark curls folding over into his eyes. He was acting all geeked out about his chess club that he started, like normal. He never stops talking about the fact he started the first ever club at his school. Hence why I think he is the smartest person I know our age. He is also way overthinking this whole resume thing; he is already in 5 pages, and I have to keep reminding him it should be 2 MAX! He has a genuine concern on his face now for my delayed response. And his converse shoe keeps tapping, waiting patiently for my answer. "Romie," I call him by his nickname, "don't you think it should be more professional like, 'orchestrated and promoted the chess club at the Air School." Rome rubbed his chin and stared in deep thought, "Oh ya, Laura I actually like that, I'll keep thinking of any other better ways to word it as well......" "Do you think James would know any way to better word this?" Ahhh, I thought such a Libra and his perfectionism and need for multiple opinions on important matters. Not to mention, his weird obsession with James, he acts like that man can do no wrong. He also addresses James by his first name even though he is our boss, but James doesn't seem to mind. At least, Rome is almost done with his resume though. Me on the other hand, I haven't even started yet; maybe I am overthinking my own resume as well. "Laura, haven't you typed anything this whole time?" I am sitting across from Rome on his cushioned window seat. I take in his bright neon green moon chair he resides in. "No, I haven't even started yet, I feel like I don't even have much to write about." "Well of course you do Laurie," Rome says as he reassures me on all of my adolescent success. He goes through my water school sport career as a soccer player on an undefeated team. Also, reminiscences my time as my school's weekly newspaper editor. He continues on his usual rant of how I have so much going for me and that I would make a wonderful God. "Oh, and not to mention Laurie, you also managed to grab the love of the hottest water sign out there, well besides the God himself." I roll my eyes, "well I am certainly not a blonde bimbo and would not write that having Jake Hudden as a boyfriend is an accomplishment." Romie jumps out of his moon chair and reaches out to me, "Laurie I didn't mean to make it sound like that, we all know how independent you really are." I look away towards one of his band posters that is hanging over his bed that is swaying from the breeze that is coming through from the window behind me. His bed is a mess of blankets like always, but the rest of his room is tidy, like a true Libra. While Rome is a true protector of fairness and equality, he is more punkish than he lets on. He stands for doing the right thing, but at the same time is caught getting in trouble for unexpectable things. Like last summer, you would think Rome was the picture-perfect student. He was getting together with his chess club, taking summer classes, and going above and beyond in his house chores. Yet, his parents caught him trying to sneak out to do who knows what. I guess it's always the best-looking students/kids that can be the most rebellious at times. I say rebellious, but all Rome ever does is run away or speak his opinion to the point of back talk. I cannot say much because I am similar in the same ways. "Earth to Laura," Rome says all up in my face waving his hands, "what did you do, daydream about Jake?" "NO, I did not daydream about Jake, I just zoned out okay." He looks at me from a couple feet away with his hand on his hip, "hmmmm, ya okay Laura............ Well, I guess since I am done with my resume basically, we are done here." "Even though I still haven't finished mine?" I look up at him from my crisscross position with my head resting in my hands. "Ya even if you are not finished, look L, I don't have all day to be babysitting you to do nothing. Plus, I have somewhere I need to be." "Babysitting?!?!" I say shocked and raising out of my position at the window seat. "What do you have to do anyways besides hangout with me, you don't own the chess club anymore?" He points at me now, with a serious but playful look in his eye. "Hey, I will forever own that chess club. And anyway, I just having something." I put my hands on my hips, "hmmmmm, ya okay Rome." We stare at each other for a moment, and I realize that Rome might be getting a little taller than me. He must be growing because as long as we've been friends, we have always been the same height. And we have been friends for a long time now, since 6, which is longer than most friendships. I push my long hair out of my eyes, "well I guess if you're not going to tell me what you're doing, then I will leave." "Laura its nothing bad I am just taking care of some business; I will catch you up later." I start to move past Rome to his bedroom door, "I expect that." I pause at the doorway for a moment and look back to Rome who is already indulged in his iPhone. Man, sometimes it really is annoying how secretive he can be. It almost makes him sound like a water sign, I mean I guess it's fitting since he is right on the cusp of Libra and Scorpio. I walk downstairs into his lavish kitchen where his mother is making freezer popsicles out of soda. She is a lovely woman with a full head of curls that frizz out into a lion's mane. She is my idol and perfect image of an independent women. She is a big lawyer at the biggest firm on our planet. That sounds extreme, but our planet really actually is not that big. "Oh, hey Laura, I am surprised that you are not sticking around to meet Rome's new friend." "Oh, he didn't tell me that he is meeting a friend," I saw walking up to the kitchen island and leaning on the counter.
