The weather in Corona is growing cooler. Opal is taking a stroll in the crisp air, the beautiful trees around her turning a vast array of oranges and yellows. Her parents are nearby, walking hand-in-hand and watching her carefully.
Opal is excited to be wearing her new warm coat, which happens to be her favorite color, and her father's old, red scarf around her neck. She loves wearing this scarf!
She knows this scarf used to be her father's for two reasons: One, he is the one who gave it to her. He told her that he wore it when he was a kid.
Two, even before Varian gave her his scarf, she saw him wearing it in a dream. A mountainous landscape, a blinding blizzard... and the lyrics to a song, which gets stuck in her head every time she wears it now:
I will make you proud
I will make you have faith in me
I will prove that the way I used to be is all in the past
I will save the day
And come back here triumphantly
'Cause I long for that look of surprise
When you see your son rising at last
She now hums the tune to herself happily as she enjoys the feeling of autumn in the air.
