Resisting the urge to just stay and bathe in the setting sun, she quickly hasted with the colour orange painted around the scenery which gave her a newfound memory once more. This time, she knew if she was going to appreciate it once more, there'd be tears streaming down her face. It would've been best if she saved it for Mari's grave.

Strolling past both Kel and Sunny's home, which was previously Mari's as well, her attempts at trying to look away failed as she stared at the two's abodes.

Smiling to herself humbly, Aubrey had realised that she arrived to where the church was. Knowing that she wasn't allowed inside, she lifted herself over a large and grandiose rose bush which towered over the plentiful garden which rested behind it. Not caring about the scrapes she was getting on her knees thanks to the thorns, she stomped her way through the bush and walked on ahead the garden, taking extra precautions as to not step on the flora.

At last, there was only one fence left which was seemingly easy to hop over. She did so and finally found herself at the cemetery, where many gravestones were resting and so were the people who have passed on. Internally praying for them, Aubrey walked passed them all and kept making her way to Mari's grave which was at the very end of the site.

Once she arrived, Aubrey didn't expect to see someone there and instinctively got herself on guard when she saw a figure standing above Mari's grave, looking down. But her expression quickly softened as she realised that it was Y/N.

It was a surprising sight to see Y/N here in Faraway town, since they moved away 3 years ago. No one knew why they moved or anything, one week before they had to move, Y/N told everyone that they were going to. Due to the grief of abruptly losing Mari, no one really questioned it and even wished them good luck. But everyone still didn't get an actual answer from Y/N themselves.

Blinking a couple of times, her feet dragged her to where Y/N was standing and stood behind them.

"...Y/N..?"

Y/N jumped from hearing their name being called from behind them and whipped their head around to see a pink-haired person behind them with vibrant teal eyes and a varsity mini-jacket that reached her waist. Allowing their heart to rest for a second, they stared at Aubrey, trying to figure out who the hell they were.

"Um, yes?"

"...You're... back?"

With only two words, Y/N immediately remembered who the pink haired figure in front of them. Images came flooding back from way back when.

"Oh my god, Aubrey, it's you!"

Y/N instantaneously pulled Aubrey into a surprise hug, to which she usually would've pushed them away and punch them square in the teeth but didn't have enough energy left to exert to even being mad. Aubrey craved the feeling of true support, someone actually being on her side for once and ready to just listen. Quickly letting go, Y/N eyed her up and down.

"Whoaaa... You've changed. What've you done with your hair?! I love it!"

Aubrey grabbed at her unnaturally pink hair and played with it, stroking it very harshly though by some miracle, didn't pull any hairs out but she wished she could've at that moment. She took a breath to form her response and finally looked up at Y/N's smiling face.

"...You... actually like it?"

Y/N grinned and closed their eyes.

"'Course! Why? Who wouldn't? It really suits you Aub's."

Hearing her name said so casually like that made Aubrey stare off to the side but fixated her gaze on Mari's gravestone. People just kept calling her a delinquent and constantly looked down upon her for changing how she looked. She didn't care. She shouldn't have cared. So why did this suddenly mean so much to her?

"I-" She sputtered, "Th-Thank...you?"

"Mm, I swear, you're just like when you were then."

Lies.

Aubrey had changed. Everyone did. But Y/N wasn't here to witness the transformation. If they were here to see it, Y/N would probably have the same views as everyone else.

Right?

Aubrey decided to humour Y/N just a tad, they never actually spoke to each other in a while and she was allowed to have one good thing going for her today since it sucked more than usual. "Oh, really? How so?"

Y/N's eyes shone and twinkled cartoonishly, "You dyed your hair like you always wanted! I sorta thought you meant dying the tips of it or getting highlights but I really didn't think you'd go all out! I admire your bravery. Mari would too..."

They nudged her arm with her elbow to which Aubrey retracted her entire body and twitched backwards, taking a few steps back. With a stunned expression, Y/N shifted themselves slightly away from the pink haired girl, to show that they didn't mean harm.

"S-Sorry."

"S-Sorry."

They both spoke before immediately closing their mouths and clasping their hands above it, realising that they said the exact same thing at the exact same time. Even with the small stutter at first.

"No, don't-"

"No, don't-"

Yet again, they said in unison. Now this turned amusing.

Y/N sighed, "Well. Awkward... Mind if we chat for a bit? If Hobbeez is still open, we could go hang there for a few minutes."

Aubrey stayed silent for a few seconds. After everything she had to endure for 4 whole years, she was allowed to have one good thing. Just one thing. Just one thing that's going for her, one moment where she could say that things went back to the way they've always been. Even if it was for a few hours.

"...Sure." She muttered, grabbing a hold of Y/N's left hand with her right one. "Let's go."
