"Are you awake?" I ask.
You roll to your side and look at me. "Of course," you say. "What is it?"
"Nothing, just thinking," I answer.
You smile. You know. "About what?" you ask.
"About the world." I answer. "About the future. About us."
You reach out and smooth my hair. "Why are you thinking about that?"
"I just like the company of my own thoughts," I reply. "Sometimes, they keep me awake longer than I wanted them to."
You worry. You know. "Can you stop them?"
I smiled. "If I could, I'd be long dead in my sleep by now."
